I hope this isn't considered spam or against the rules. If it is, I apologize.

Sept. 1,3, and 11th are national no gas buying days.  If most of the country doesn't buy any gas on those days the oil companies will go near bankrupt and have to lower their prices to stay ahead.  Just something to think about.

And why would we want all the oil companies to go bankrupt? We can't do ANYTHING without gas.

I think both points above pretty much nail that idea to the wall. I've heard of this scheme before, and short of having the major news media broadcast it, don't expect it to work. The first time I heard of this, I thought I might join in, but then my tank was empty and I said screw it.

And by the way, if anyone starts making this into a political tirade, I will decapitate you. Yes, the price of gas sucks, but unless you drive you have no real reason to discuss it. And if you do drive, you realize that arguing about politics on a Nerf board is silly.

My thoughts exactly.

If I wanted to protest the price of gas amid any political allusions, I'd set up my Dick Cheney doggie dooley pads on the front lawn. With Halliburton logos on them.

Oh come on... this is a lame chain mail that's been going around the 'net for more than 10 years. It wouldn't work and doesn't mean anything. If you want to make a statement with your car, buy a car that saves gas every day.

You realize that moving your purchase around a day or two doesnt do anything in a boycott. The colonists didn't say, "We'll buy paper tomorrow" they said "we won't buy paper". www.snopes.com has a whole write-up about gas boycotts.

My little super pocket bike gets 60 to the gallon. Too bad it only holds a alf gallon. Maybe I could modify that. Perhaps 2 removable milk jugs on the top/side of the tank. Hopefully I can use that to get to school while I work on my car. They do have a place for mopeds.

My solution to the gas price hike...

Posted Image

With the lighting additons (tail, high and low headlight/LED, cruise/ strobe dome), add an orange triangle to the back, seatbelts, and a windshield, and it's street legal as a slow-moving vehicle!

It 'only' goes about 15 mph (used a GPS to get speed), but with a 48v kit and high-torque motor, these babies can go upwards of 25-30 mph!

This is my working dog, however, so it's only getting a lift kit and some bigger tires. It goes fast enough. Oh, and the necessary camo paint/ decal job.

You realize that moving your purchase around a day or two doesnt do anything in a boycott. The colonists didn't say, "We'll buy paper tomorrow" they said "we won't buy paper".

This is exactly what I had in mind when I heard about this. They had determination and willpower to refrain from consumption. The Americans nowadays figure "Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on", and they fill their Hummers to the brim with gas no matter how much it costs. In order for a boycott to work, NOBODY consumes. There is no way in hell something like this could ever work.

Piney - I like the cart. What kind is it? I work at a golf course, and I've been able to soup an E-Z-GO cart up to 30-35 MPH. Just by sticking a pop bottle under the throttle, you're able to make a golf cart ready for non-highway use. And if you really want speed, just tweak the cables by the accelerator. So for all of those who drive around campus, it might not be a bad idea to look into this. You can always pimp the thing out later. Sure, it looks stupid, but it's awesome when you cut gas costs by a fraction. Besides, it's fun to mod stuff while you're working. It's so much more rewarding.

For the most part, I am 100% guilty of aiding the destruction of the economy. I drive a shitty Grand Am that was not properly maintenenced before I got it. I've been thinking of buying a Mustang, but damn it, I just can't do it. As much as I want to say, "Fuck it," deep down I just can't bring myself too it. While my car is indeed a piece of shit and any car (besides maybe the H2, fuck those things) is going to get better gas mileage then mine, I can't in good conscience run out and buy something I know doesn't get the best milage.

However, if you stop buying gas, the price isn't going to drop. That's retarded, it's just going to go up. If no one is buying, the companies will make less money, forcing them to raise the price. That's how businesses work. Dropping the price may give you a small surge in business, but it won't save your company.

Look at GM. They whip out the employee discount sale on their cars and yes, they make a sudden surge of sales. However, their stock did not rise. Why? Because they made they did not make enough money on the sales. What they were trying to do was get their product into the public. Every Cadillac they sell is free advertisement. Every car they sell has the logo emblazen on it. In that case, it made sense to make the sale.

Gas stations don't have that luxury. If they drop the price of gas, they're going to sell more gas, but make no profit on it. Why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE GAS STATIONS YOU FUCKING RETARDS! They aren't gouging the prices, it's just really god damn expensive. I personally do not bitch about gas prices. It sucks, but I don't bitch. I use just as much gas as everyone else. I need it to get to work. I need it to keep my house warm. I need it so my server keeps running. I need it, and therefore, I'm fucking shocked they haven't gouged the prices in the past. That shits like pure gold. The price has raised on gas, I'm willing to pay it because it's something I use all the time, everyday. If all of a sudden food shot up in price, I'd still buy that.

My point is, please don't complain about gas. We're at war, it's still summer, there are SUV's everywhere and the gulf just felt the holy bitch slap of God himself. It's the way of things and there's really nothing we can do about it other then try to conserve.

So I propose this. Lets have an anual conservation day. Lets find alternate ways to get to work. Lets open the windows and buy some fans to save electricity. Lets turn the computers off when we're not using them and find other ways to consume less. Boycotts are stupid and generally brought up by hippies. Hippies smoke weed. Now lets figure out the cost for our government to fight the drug trafficing. So even better, I propose this:

September 7th is National Fill your Tank and Kill a Hippie day!

Lock and load gentlemen,

Talio.

I have a Unix box running solaris 9 with 128 megs ram, and 800 mhz processing, a virtual dinosaur by todays standards.  I've had it for about 2 years and I've never had to restart it.  Thats right folks, the only time that box goes down is if I'm going away on vacation.  I powered it down right after christmas because I went to California.  Before that, it had run since August when I went to California.  Before that it ran since January when I went to RI to Hasbro.  Before that, it ran a year.

Ah, well enough said.....

I'd be curious to know how much the government wastes trying to get rid of pot. That's an even more pointless exercise than the war.

Carpool. Ride a bike. Ride the bus/train. Live in a more rural area? Hybrid cars have good mileage even on highway. Just like Talio implied, it's just irresponsible to throw gas away. Conserve any way you can. Unless you're a freight truck driver, there's always a way to cut down.

We really ought to put the lead on finding a good alternative to gasoline. Focus your frustration and anger on that, then we'll see some headway.

Truck drivers CAN use less gas. Deisle engines are very industrious machines, they will run on ANY form of oil. Conr oil, vegtable oip, peanut oit, you name it, you can put it in a deisle and make it go.

I don't know if this is true or not, but one of my friends told me that the government spent more money trying to get rid of marijuana than all the other illegal drugs combined. Which reminds me...
