No seriously, side arms aren't for shooting, there so you can keep people from charging.

I have been wondering how someone can use a single shot primary and a single shot pistol. What do they do if they miss the person they shot at or take on more than one?
Well, there are a few options that you have. One is to rely on your teammates to help with much needed cover fire. If you can combine effective teammates with some dodging skills, you are usually ok. In the event those two don't work for you, pull out the secondary. More often than not your secondary is to hopefully fend off your opponent long enough for you to reload, or for a teammate to show up. If all else fails, run like you're trying to get out of hell.
I tried this at one of my wars(6 people) and kept getting shot because I'd miss with my xbow and then shot them with my nf but then another person would come and I would be reloading. Now I use my xbow/sm750 integration and either a spitfire or tek 6. This combo gives me two primary shots and 2-6 secondary shots.
So how do some of you use two single shot guns?
The real thing here is finding what works with your group of people. As Langley said, NJ has a rather unique style of play. My suggestions above are rather generic though. As I noted above, it seems to me like you need to rely on the other two teammates of yours for help. Moving effectively in groups wins rounds, not individuals working alone. As a group you can help defend eachother and avoid traps.
If you feel like more shots will help, go for it.

one shot one kill
Your sig betrays you, huh.
All kidding aside, I used to use a single-barreled SM1500, then a single-barreled AT3000. Why? Because we rarely had more than 4 on 4 matches, and we always stuck together, only moving apart on offensives, and always being within shooting range of each other for suppresive fire while we reload. It actually worked pretty well.
I took the idea one step further when I put the 1500 and an SS2, both breech loaded single shots, into a Sawtooth shell, giving me the ability to reload quickly and have the important second shot on tap if ever needed. I rarely got to use that one.
Nowadays, I'm lucky if it's 4-6 of us playing, either team elimination or all-out deathmatch, and I've come to like using an AT2000. Nothing else. I never stay still long enough to give anyone a decent shot at me, and I reload on the run. As in "run, Forrest, run". I can shoot the 2k and pump and advance for the next shot in a few seconds so I'm not too disadvantaged as far as being hung up without a second/third shot. I tend to miss a lot, too, so it helps to have the extra shots.
Sticking a NiteFinder in my cargo pocket seems to hamper my ability and mobility, but that may be due to not-so-loose pants. I wouldn't use it (a sidearm) unless I wasn't planning on running around much.

Next war I'm going to try to run more and stay close enough to cover to my teammates but not stand next to them. I'm also going to practice shooting my guns.

Single-shots are now more my style, but I ALWAYS carry a sidearm just in case I'm rushed. If I can start practicing with my soon-to-be-clip-modded RF20 (three extra turrets
Oh yeah, I used to use just my Mav and NF and I was pretty good with it, sometimes able to fend off two clanmates completely alone with just it. The cocking slide broke though, so it's not really in my active arsenal anymore.
EDIT: I've found another tactic that works for me is to run like all hell's broke loose if you miss your shot. I wouldn't hang around and try to hold off the other guy with your sidearm if you miss with your primary, just run the hell away! Even if you're not running fast the other guy will sometimes back down from the chase because you're less accurate when running.

I'm guessing that's on the mav. Same happened to mine, I might end up just epoxying the slide right to the plunger tube so I can get it to work again. If anyone has a better idea, please tell. The cocking slide broke though, so it's not really in my active arsenal anymore.
Sorry, now back on topic. Like everyone else said, the sidearm is basically for pointing at the other guy so he/she doesn't rush you. I only use it when I'm in trouble. And yes, it does usually help if you aim Navy Seal.

I meant like going outside and shooting at stuff. A few months ago I use to shoot at human sized targets with my xbow 50ft away and could hit them about 8 times out of ten. The few that missed weren't that far away from the target. I have been on vacation and haven't nerfed or shot my guns in 1-2 months before my last war. At the war about only 30% of my shots hit someone. This might also have been caused by the quality of my stefans but they are pretty well made. That last sentence is like saying "Maybe aiming the gun will help....nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *POW* CRAP!"

The ability to dominate a war using a single shot primary and sidearm comes down to several aspects. When you have perfected each part, you will find that your chances of victory increase significantly. Knowledge is the key to success here.
1.) Know your guns
It is of utmost importance that you have a working knowledge of your guns (reloading, priming, reload time, etc.). You may have heard the saying "your gun should be considered a part of you". This is true, but not to the extent that you say "ow" when you bump your firearm. It is difficult to win wars with a strange weapon. I'm not saying it's not been done before, it's just difficult. When I introduce my friends to a new gun, I don't expect them to be able to become a supertrooper with it. I tell them how many pumps to give it, and they're on their own. After a few battles, they begin to come through. You should be able to run through several scenarios in your head about how to keep your cool under fire. I've learned to trust my guns, and that's a big part of it.
2.) Know your teammates
Another major contributing factor is to know your team, and its playing styles. If you know someone who is reliable with a PC, it would be wise to stick with them. If there's another single shot man, use each other's cover to its full potential. You should be able to know who generally dies first. You can use this person as your decoy to get several shots off. Take advantage of their fall to make a move. If you are in a war against them, you can use this to your advantage as well. You will know their weaknesses. The only downside is that they know your's. In this case, you will have to be a spontaneous player. Try new tactics they've never seen before. By knowing just who you are playing with, you can maximize your ability.
3.) Know the battlefield
It is a good idea that you know your playing area like the back of your hand. This gives you the oppurtunity to know where to run for cover when you reload. If you're caught trying to reload out in the open, chances are you will be shot. There's no denying it. Sure, you can run fast. But now that the enemy knows where you are, they can easily flank you and that sucks ass. You will also know where there is a clearing for a full sprint. This will increase the gap between you and your pursuers. If you are new to a battlefield, say, on a traveling war, examine it before the war starts. Mark several spots in your head that will prove of use to you. You will be thanking yourself later.
4.) Know yourself
Most of all, you should know yourself as a Nerfer. Know your limits. For example, if you can't run very fast, you will need to use good cover to compensate for that lack. If you can't operate solo, stick with your team. Of course, you will need to know how to go solitary for when your team dies out. The best idea there is to be an annoyance. Keep your intimidation factor up. Make the enemy fear the unknown. Once more you should be spontaneous. You absloutely need to know how to make up for any hinderance that you may have.
By following these 4 steps, you will find yourself not only more effective as a single shot Nerfer, but as a better Nerfer overall. My friend has been able to win wars using only a BBB and an LnL many a time. This guide and more can be found on my DVD, Nerf Like the Finns for one easy payment of $16.95.
In all seriousness, put yourself in the zone, and you will be able to manage with only 2 shots at a time. End of incredibly overdrawn post.

But on topic, I was always bugged by the use of a single-shot gun that has to have a dart manually reloaded every time, then cocked. Hence, I suggest single-shot guns adopt a removeable clip system, similar to one of the many clips out there- Renegade's clip, an adoption of Boltsniper's clip, my clip, etc. It takes the usually higher range of single shot guns and puts a more efficient loading system on them.
Although I don't really nerf as much as I'd like to, seeing the shitty-ass legal system around here. Soon as I hit college though (1 year), I'm hoping to get some wars in with the East Coast guys.

As long as the topic's back up, I've been in similar situations as THIRST mentioned. An SF is a real comfort when charging multiple people. I have a friend that kicks ass using dual NFs in battle. I admit it looks really cool to see someone charge with 2 pistols while the other guy has a PC fully loaded.
