I have plenty of old Nerf guns that I never modded, but now I am thinking of trying it. I know I need PETG, but I don't know where's the best deal, what size I should get, or how long I should get it. Help would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone is selling modding tools for Nerf (not just PETG, but anything from the special glue to... whatever else I need) then I'd be more than happy to buy them from you.
- Also, for the mods that use brass barrels, can I use PETG instead?

I'm assuming you have lots of PETG? Thing is from my experience PETG is bad for springers which I'm sure you speak of since you talk of "old guns". On a springer a dart need a pretty tight fit. I don't know how your petg is but I sure as hell know mine is more for pump guns cuz it fits my darts snug. Any who for modding you'll want hacksaw/dremel and hotglue gun/epoxy/ tons of other glues. I prefer hot glue. Umm screwdriver to open it up, you've got your barrel already. I think those are the main things that I use. And yes you can virtually swap barrels for any mod, so brass would be fine for a PETG write up or something but make sure there almsot the same OD. Good luck with the mods, and nice first post.

EDIT: Just realized you wanted PETG. Hmm I think cpvc would be better for the guns your working with, or some brass would do fine too. Your choice though.

Do yourself a favor and go visit loghelp.com for some 1/2" closed cell foam backer rod first. Buy a couple hundred feet of it. Once you have that in hand, you can go to the hardware store and buy the tubing that fits your foam correctly. Ignore anything anyone tells you about which barrel is best in a general sense because their foam is different from your foam. Even two batches from the same manufacturer are different sizes!

Brass is sometimes used in a similar manner to PETG, though there are times when one or the other is preferred. I would definitely use PETG for any multi-barrel auto-rotating gun because weight is critical. I would definitely use brass for any spring gun except perhaps for the weakest pistols because it nests and will adjust fairly precisely to your foam size.

Read this for an overview of different dart and barrel types.

That clears mostly everything up for me. Thanks. There's a problem though. I don't have a hardware shop anywhere near me, so I'm somewhat forced to buy barrels online. And in that link you didn't mention PETG, you mentioned SCH40 (for not brass tubing). Should I get that instead of PETG, or are they both the same?

I definitely know I'm ordering me darts off loghelp, and will find a good online dealer for brass and PETG (SCH40?). Thanks again, and I'll buy some hotglue.

I also heard something about a sander.

SCH40 is a type of PVC pipe, it's for mega Stefans, while PETG and brass on the other hand are for micro Stefans.

A Dremel is useful but other things can substitute.

So I should just use SCH80, since micro stefans shoot better. Is there any reason to get mega stefans if you use a small barrel?

And I have no idea what a dremel is. I see prices from $.99 to $99.99.

Thanks. Just all this modding stuff is really confusing. I want to have everything I need for it.

A dremel is actually a "High speed rotary tool", and Dremel is a brand name, like Kleenex is to tissue.

High speed rotary tools are like really fast drills, only they produce high speed, but low torque, were a drill is high torque, low speed. It can be fitted with many different bits, used for tasks ranging from cutting/sanding to buffering/polishing. It's usually easy to hold, and is cylindrical in form. You can get corded, or battery powered ones.

Check a hardware store website, like Home Depot (in the States, Rona here in Canada) and search up their tools selection.
