I'm sorry guys but I'm still a little unknowing of what this is, what it does to your computer, and what you have to do. I've read almost every post in here and I'm just stupid I guess. What do you have to do? Just let your computer run like a wild person? Sorry again but I guess I'm just not smart.... If it's something that almost a complete idiot can do, I'll sign up and help (If I still can).

Any help? Sorry ;)

Edit: I'm starting to learn a tad more every minute or so. Just takes my brain so extra time to process it.

My folding has been suffering thanks to a power surge that fried the mobo on my 2500+. It also caused a kernel panic on my other 2 so I lost the units it was working on and a couple more days of productivity reconfiguring the OS. My 3000 a week average should be back pretty soon though, and maybe more, I picked up a 2800+ but don't have a mobo or power supply for it.

@ Boltsniper, how long have you had those 9 running? I haven't really noticed a huge spike in your folding average. I had thought about buying some cheap XP processors and clustering them, not just for folding, I do some processor intensive work like crawling. Is this similar to what those 9 are doing, or are they just 9 boxes?

Baelnorn

I`ve had 9 cores running for about a month now. I added 3 to my original 6, but it didn`t make a huge imnpact on my numbers. Two of the units I added are day only and medium performance PC's. The other is a CFD workstation in my lab that runs extremely processor intensive geometries and I know that CPU is not churning out much in the case of folding.

We just got a Xeon with 8Gb of RAM in our lab that I am hoping to get FAH on. Also a flluids workstation but should crank out some majot shit while its not in use.

Guys, October looks to be the first month where our monthly total is not significantly better than the last. In fact, we have reverted to a production level lower than the one we had in August. I know that the slowing of my machines has probably accounted for 6,000 points of loss in the last month alone. If I can find a way to at least get back to my July-August-early September production levels, I will.

Thanks rusty. I'm downloading and installing as I'm typing. Seems pretty cool. Now I need to actually need to figure out how to instal it. Because I use linux and am still figuring out how to do these things.

Sqiggs, I use linux as well, just run ./FAH-502.exe or whatever the file you downloaded is called. It's just a executable so you can run it like any .bin file. It will then prompt you for the configuration settings. I believe that cxwq has all the information for that in his first post of this thread. Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions about running FAH on linux.

I recently moved, and my DSL company is full of fools. I was offline for an entire week. That's 3 whole processors. I'm franky a tad annoyed that I only moved down to 6th place. Work your PC's, people! Is Piney the only one willing to make his go down in flames curing the worlds diseases!?

I'm trying to get Western michigan onboard, but have so far become unsuccessful. I'll hopefully be adding another processor soon. We're still gaining and our rank will increase but many teams are starting to pass us up too.

I just want to thank earl the bunny, boltsniper, and snaped for sticking with us and putting up good numbers while many remain inactive and have since stopped folding. We only have 27 active members guys, so I am certain that nerfhaven has a ton more potential than we are currently tapping.

Just saying I added another machine.

And Shinny, if you don't get some of those rigs up on this, it looks like I may pass you

Guys, lets keep with this, we are almost in the Top 500.

Good to have you back crank. We missed you, especially Talio.

My machines have been gagging for the last two months; give me a break. They are looking forward to a few weeks of no F@H after Christmas.

Funny story, My computer is currently out, my, uh, hard drive was taken away (temporarily). Currently I'm on my laptop, which currently is not running FAH as it's not on (my future colege comp). However, assuming I get my hard drive back by friday, I should be back up with my regular comp running it, and my just-built-yesterday (literally) computer. There's no way I can ever get high in rankings, but I can at least help NH out a bit. I'll try to get a 3rd computer up and running, provided I can scrounge up some cash for a new motherboard/cpu/ram. Go Newegg&Tigerdirect! And cheap CompUSA ram!

I'm amazed I'm still cranking out units. I have had to remove all but one of my comps, and thats because I simply can't take it off without getting screamed at.

Suprisingly, my dad hasn't found it yet!

What do you mean by good advice? If you mean directions then here is a very good one Directions. The site is older so the hardware might be a little archaic, but the principles are still good. I believe I posted a hardware selection in your other thread, anything along those lines should be adequate. I've got some other resources that I can't find right now, feel free to PM me if the one above doesn't work out for you.

I actually do, but I don't really have anything to add to the community at this point from a nerf standpoint. I have an AT3k that is modded, but thats not really anything thats worth posting. I've got a homemade idea on the drawing board right now, but I haven't got all of the materials assembled yet, and I don't think that posting drawings would be that constructive seeing as how the ideas that get posted here never get built, with the notable exception of your guns. So right now the only thing that I feel like I have adequate experience in to provide input on is this thread. No offense taken by your question, its perfectly warranted given the dataset.

Some random updates:
I realized one small machine I setup FAH for the other day didn't keep my settings, changed that through the client.cfg file.
My main rig is now running SUSE 10.0 and I have FAH running on it as of 2 minutes ago. I'm happy to say I checked the client.cfg file and my settings stuck.

Looks that way, let me know which one you'd like and PM me your address.

Congrats!

I think I'm going to be able to start contributing significantly again in the near future. I don't think my first place overall will be in any danger for some time.

Congrats, baelnorn!

Now I hope everyone won't wuss out and fall away from F@H. We're still climbing the rankings, although down to somewhat of a crawl.

F@H is staying on my office machine until the cows come home. It (the GUI version) makes for a nice desktop.

This is where I disappoint Piney, which I am not particularly proud of but those are the breaks. The overall performance of my laptop and desktop at home have dropped dramatically since late September. While they haven't died and did manage to hold their own, it's time my processors got some rest. I've dropped FAH's priority on my laptop from 99 to 5. I just felt my processor needed some rest. I'll be hopefully picking FAH up more aggressively over the summer when I build my own machine.

400th post, sure is a damn shoddy one at that.

It's great to see yet another team going for the real gold: curing disease.
I've been a folder for several years now, but unfortunately all of my machines are committed to other teams. That's no help to the team here specifically, but we're all fighting the same odds. Disease sure doesn't seem to give a crap about affiliations, team names or point tallies.

Hopefully soon I'll be able to share with you what I came to the forums for, and it does involve Nerf and computers, so perhaps this thread and forum category isn't so far off topic as previously stated. I am also interested in talking PCs to anyone that cares to, though I do a lot more of that over at PCApex.com (formerly PimpRig.com) as a staff reviewer. No, that doesn't mean a thing other than I can write and like getting free PC goodies. Heh, well...you'd like it too, wouldn't you?

Okay, I'm putting all the folders on notice.

For the last 4 or 5 months I've only been folding part time on a few older machines so you guys have been gaining on me.

Last week I added a 24/7 Athlon X2 3800+ which promptly smoked through a pair (dual core!) of 320 point WUs in 32 hours.

In a week or two I'm hoping to get a 4-way Xeon 2.0 set up for folding.
