I would like to do this but I'm not sure how to go about it. I want to use something like a portable air compressor to power my RF20 instead of pumping. I'm having a hard time finding a battery-powered air compressor small enough to strap to my back or something so that I could use it on the field. Has anyone ever hooked up an air powered gun to something that could pump air so that no manual pumping would be required?

I don't have that much modding experience so maybe you guys have seen something that might work.

You might be able to use an air compresser that's normally used for airbrushing. I'm not sure if they're battery powered but it would be worth looking in to.

I wouldnt bother. You wont find anything small enough. Even somthing small enough to fit on your back wouldnt be good.

You guys have to think of the whole picture here. A heavy thing on your back or bigger will just slow you down and be unpractical. If you seriously need an air comressor for your RF20 to stay alive in a war, then you need to get some skill or you're using the wrong blaster.

I'm not looking for the most practical gun to use in a war. I could care less if it ever sees action other than firing it at home. I'm more looking to find out how to do it.

I remember seeing a picture guy with a powerclip hooked up to something like a backpack in a thread where airsoft guys were dissing nerf, but I can't find it.

I found a compressor, but would it be better to fill a tank and use that or plug the gun directly into the compressor?

He had the PC hooked up to a large PVC airtank on his back. I think it had problems with staying together/working all the time.

I would put a small tank between the compressor and the gun so you don't have issues with the compressor keeping up with air volume demand. Most low cost compressors are very slow.

As far as portability goes, the only thing I can think of is pairing a small 12 volt automotive air compressor with a homebrew battery pack. It's a flat out guess, but I think 8 NiMH "D" cells in series would be able to deliver enough current to run one of those things. I can't find any specs for the compressors at the moment to confirm.

Edit: Just found this one which should be easier and save you some money.

I have an idea. Why don't you buy one of those air matress compressers, they fill a giant matress in about one minute. So think how fast it would be with a air tank straped to you back, the only problem is you will need to put a button on your RF20 to actavate the pump becouse it's not auto-matic.

You might could find a tiny, pathetic excuse for a pancake compressor and hook it up to some battery that could deliver that kind of power, remembering, of course, that Quasar's comment was dead on.

On a side note, that might not be a bad thing for bases (for clans that use them). Get a compressor, plug it in someplace, and anyone in the base could use it. Hmm....

That would be way more practical than what Quasar wants to do. And he doesn't sound like the kind of person who would spend 50 bucks on a possibly impossible project.

But remember you would have to see how much pressure the rapidfire 20 tank can and will hold without exploding. I tried this with an at2k and ended up exploding the tank where the liquidron and the actual tank join, so be careful.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think a pvc airtank with a compressor backup sounds like a good idea. You all are right, it would make an excellent stationary cannon for a base anyway, so now I'm picturing a tripod mounted, removable turret (for easy reloading) RF20 with a portable compressor like cx's. It's still in the planning stage, and if/when it goes further, you all will be the first to know!

If you want a battery powered air compressor, the Campbell Hausfeld should do fine. I own one that I use for my air cannons. While it is slower than my plug in, it is really handy for when an outlet is not readily available.

I also think that a schrader valve would do a pc wonders. You could pump, or use an air tank/compressor. OR, even connect two pumps for SUPER DOUBLE MEGATON PUMPING ACTION!

And, if you would like some help, quasar, with some sort of tank, let me know... I'm pretty good with compressed air.

A backpacked cordless with a auto-shutoff pressure setting-directly connected to a PC works great,It takes about 3 seconds for 50 PSI . Rewire the on/off switch to the side of the PC and you can refill/change clips in about the same amout of time.

Actually, thanks for bringing this up. My friend's air mattress comes with a portable air pump. It's electronic and goes fairly quickly. So if you took something like this and hooked it up to an RF20 bladder then you could get a fairly quick re-pump time. It isn't an air compressor, but it's close.

on the note of backpack PVC Airtanks....

i'm doing this to one of my PC's, you do NOT need to leave the stock airtank in, you just run the BPAT's hose to the trigger valve, so that it replaces the stock airtank

EDIT: This is not an original idea, i'm just adapting it to a larger airtank at a medium PSI

About those air mattress compressors...

I believe that a typical air mattress holds at max 10 psi (probably closer to 4-6). A PVC airtank would need anywhere from 50-120 psi in order to make a pc cycle. I realize that these are just guesses, but nerf darts seem to like high pressure low volume tanks, since the darts have little mass.

So I don't think that a matress compressor would be powerful enough... but that would be nice!

What about that new compressor from Canadian Tire. It "Says" it can inflate an air matress in under 2 min. It only costs 30$ and comes with 2 compressors and a docking station to re-charge it?

I cant seem to find a link anywhere. I saw the pump on t.v and it was going for 40$ canadian. Comes with 2 types of pumps, all the types of pump heads, and a docking station to recharge the cordless pump. Perfect for the gun your trying to make!
