Well, I'm trying to install slackware on my system in my room, and I'm amazed how completely different it already is from windows--just from trying to install the bastard. It's harder than crap, but I'll eventually get it to work...

Why am I putting lenix on my system? I have no idea. It just sounded fun.

Comments? Suggestions?

Yeah, I installed Slackware on my system in my room a few weeks ago (odd timing)... The installation was no problem, but from there I was kind of left in the dark. If you want a listing of basic commands, just ask (or just search, they're just a bit annoying to find good explanations for sometimes), and any installation issues I can probably help with. Don't expect too much from me, though; I ended up nuking the drive and reinstalling Win98 (Such a whore, I know) until a time when I don't need the system so much. Needless to say, I got it installed, but didn't even get around to firing up X Windows. Sad.

Oh, and did you use Cfdisk, fdisk, or some other partitioning system? Are you trying to work it around your existing OS (For a double boot)?

I used a windows program called partition magic to create linux native and swap partitions. I also read a shitload of documentation. I configured the Lenix Loader (LILO) to the master boot record on my windows partition, so it gives me an option of which OS I want each time I boot.

Newsflash: HOLY SHIT LINUX RAPES WINDOWS AND MACS AT THE SAME TIME. That is all.

KDE, the desktop I'm using is sweet. It looks better than XP or OSX, actually has FOUR DESKTOPS, a crapload of programs for free, and best of all, a mouse odometer. That's right, it keeps track of how far my mouse moves. How sweet is that?
