I've started another Nerf message board for those who are interested.

Nerf Universe
Basically, this will be a start to a clan forum, but if you are interested you may register. Hopefully, we can get a minor Nerf community of the ground.

Sorry to bash, but...

I don't really see a point in making another Nerf forum. A lot of people do it for their own site, but the fact is that most people go to a message board for information.

If you wanted Nerf info, would you rather come to a board like this with hundreds of knowledgable users or a banner ad-filled one like yours (with three whole registered users!)?

I made the same mistake as well about two or three years ago. Diablo did it too with Open::Nerf. The fact is, the NIC has never really accepted more than two forums.

the NIC has never really accepted more than two forums.

Indeed. Instances of one or three viable forums in the NIC tend to be very short-lived.

NO/NC (ca. 2001)

NO (practically speaking - NC was a ghost town, NHQ not real busy either)

NC/NHQ (picked up the slack when NO went to shit)

NHQ/NC/NH (very briefly, NHQ and NC were competing for the same users)

NHQ/NH/NE (very briefly, NC lost all relevance to NHQ)

NHQ/NH (NC closed for good, NE abandoned by users)

Moral of the story? Go ahead and create a forum, but if you want it to make an impact you'd better be gunning for one of the big guys.

This might actually be a good time for it. I think there are a fair number of users who aren't entirely happy with one or both of the current forums. You could take the NIC by storm and either HQ or Haven would die a pathetic, lonely death in a year or so.

Or we'll eat you for breakfast.

You forgot the part where Andy offered to absorb us and we crushed him.

Well, yeah, I realize this won't be some huge industrial-sized forum and I don't expect it to be one. I just felt like doing something new. My original intent was to have a smaller forum, a tight-knit group at that. If it got to be a big deal, that would be ok with me. I don't really expect it to be huge, and that's fine.

If the majors do suddenly die out like NO, it could serve as a fallback like Cx said. If the unfortune arises, I welcome you all to join the Universe if you need a place to go. I'll be the insurance policy.

Ignoring the fact that there have been numerous attempts at this by various others (including myself), here's some constructive critisism. First is skins, if people see some tiny forum with default skins they tend to skip over it. You can find some interesting skins at IFskinszone. You also might want to look into interesting graphics and effects to make you board visually appealing. 2nd, you're the admin of the board so you don't need to mark yourself as moderator for all but one, thats just being stupid. 3rd is your small list of forums, yes it is good not to have too many but it is equaly bad if not worse to have too few. 4th and finnaly, before you start a forum you need to have at least one starting topic in each division, it looks baron if there are no posts in one area. (If you need ideas for what to put in starter topics just put what people should post there and guidelines for posting.
Good luck

May i suggest only really using your forum for your clan? The quilted northerns clan site was set up for its members to have a place to talk to each other. Personally i really do feel there are reasons to set up a nerf forum. Not a big NIC forum like NH or HQ but a clan site. This removes clutter from nerfhaven. We can announce war dates for our Clan and not have a whole bunch of people from other parts of the country have to hear about it. Believe it or not, a clan site is very useful and has helped the quilted northerns coordinate things better. This will help Lordoftherings clan if he wishes to use it for that reason.

Nerfiteers, that's exactly the point I shot at. I don't really want my forum to be huge and a pain in the ass to take care of. We can organize Minnesota wars between our forums.

Spaztic, thanks for the criticism. It gives me something to work on. I'm a rookie, but I'm looking forward to making things interesting.
