I just modded my At2k. Plugged up air release valves, put crayola right on end of air tank. Put 7 inch pvc over it. normal stuff. Everytime I fire it some weird steam/smoke comes out of the barrel. pretty cool but what the heck is happening? Little dissapointed with range. Everyone says they get like 110+ but I only get like 70-80(Kinda big range but i cant get exact measurements).

Everybody who gets those ranges uses stefans. Also your barrel could be a 2-3 inches longer.

Crayola barrels wont get as much range as cpvc/brass. The "smoke" you see coming out of the barrel is just the air diffusing as it changes pressures extremely fast. And those big 110 ft. 3-4 pump ranges are just bull.

I get the same thing with my SM5k. I think it has something to do with the fact that the air in the tank is warm because it is being compressed so much more by the plugged pump. When the warm air escapes, it mixes with the colder air outside and condences just long enough for you to see it, before it all becomes one and "disappears".

I might be totally wrong though.

It's nothing to worry about, I don't think. My blaster still holds strong and the steam hasn't made any noticable performance reduction.

Not in the game anymore, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for the great years of fun, NH!

Yeah, it has to do with the sudden change in pressure as the air leaves the tank and moisture/tempature levels in the outside air, barrel, and tank. If spray some water o r other liquid down the barrell, it also creates that "smoke" effect. This happens with most high-pressure guns, such as the 2k and 5k.

Who says you have to stop at 3-4 pumps though? On a singled at2k with, say, 8 or 9 pumps 110-120 ft. is easily achieved.

That may explain the claims of super high ranges

(and yes, I do pump my at2k's at least 8 or 9 times in wars, any more than 11 and youre in trouble, and I've blown the seal at 14)

My 100+ singled ranges come from 5-6 pumps... any past that I'm afraid of plastic shards in my cranial region.

And THIRST, you know AT2k's can get 80-90 with turrets, so 100+ is definately possible with 5-6 pumps singled barreled. You just need to minimize the waste of air by making as small a space as possible between the dart and the chamber. And for some reason constriction really helps me.

With me, my guns that use pressurized air smoke after it's rained or if it is especially humid outside. I was also quite surprised when this first happened.

the vapor-thang is a fun little effect that happens depending on weather etc.
With my at2k's pump plugged, with a sm1500's handle/grip on the pump, I can't even physically pump mine more than 5 times, but I've never gotten above 100ft flat with no wind from shoulder height. I find that it depends much more upon ones dart, and dart to barrel ratio than the sheer beefiness of the gun -- as this gun has plenty of power.

I'm going to agree with the pump thing. Those valves aren't that strong, careful about the pumps. 5 has always been my limit.

To correct one thing, it's not the air outside of the valve that is cold. Compressed gases are naturally cold more so during expansion. It's normal. Here's a really cool trick I figured out during Apoc 2k4. If it's really humid one day you're playing (as in rained all morning and it's now 90 degree's outside in New Jersey, aka swamp) fire off a round, then look down the barrel, you get a cool spiral tornado effect inside the barrel. It's neat.

I've always stuck with 5 pumps as well. Somehow my sm750 outshoots my at2k. I have no idea why.

My titans the worst at that. The 2k's are extremly hard to pump after 6. I used to have alot of fun shooting smoke around. I wonder why all my 2k's are broken?

My copper 2k barrel is about 6 inches. 6-7 inches is a good size for the 2k.

Ok, this I don't understand? How does blowing a dart down the barrel create a smoke/steam effect. Anyway, this is normal, my SM5k did it, and I am sure AT2k's and SM1500's are quite capable too.

the technical term for the smoke is a "cloud" (I know, not very technical) it reminds me of a science expieriment you do with a soda bottle. put water in the bottle, dump it out
turn the bottle upside-down and light a match under it
then close it and squeeze it hard then let go quickly, it will create a cloud. unless you really want to do it just take my word for it

All powerful pump guns do this. My Titan my Sm5K, At2K, and even my Big Salvo do this. Of course, I live in Florida where it's ALWAYS humid.
