These are popping up all over LA. I'm pissed off. I'm proud to be American and I'm proud to live in Los Angeles, California - an American city, not a Mexican one. I honestly think this is treason. That news station has no right to pretend that California is a Mexican city. Yeah, we ripped them off, but we also bought New York City for $24. You don't see the Dutch complaining.

Dude, get a fucking life. It's a billboard. Who gives a shit? Treason!? are you for real? Fact of the matter is, we are a diverse nation. The as is for a Spanish station that I bet my life savings as well as my life's future earnings would never even watch; Unless its like the spanish channels I get where no matter what show is on, there is at least one scantily clad rather well endowed woman shaking her ass on camera whether its a crazy variety show or the news. Again, really, who gives a shit. People are dying everyday from starvation and AIDS and tons of other crap. Why not head over to http://www.one.org or Oxfam's site and do something about it, rather then complain about something THE FIRST AMENDMENT of your AMERICAN city and country protects.

LA is Cali's. Everyone knows that a billboard won't change the borders.

Ompa, that isn't even a CLOSE comparison. How does this relate to illegal immigrants taking a job from someone? It's an add for a spanish network. Are you really that concerned about it. You two drasctically need to reevaluate your priorities.

He's a good story

The local McDonald's by me has only one white employee besides the franchise owner. I have to hear "Welcome to Mcdonall's can i hell you?" every time at the drivethrough. Then it's "Two sheezburger meal, fie eigty two, tank you." Point is, I don't speak a WORD of english, but those people are doing their job. It doesn't bother me if they have an accent. At least they are WORKING. I almost forgot to mention, the drive through menu is in both english and some spanish.

The point is, we have the freedom of speech right in this country. What about those billboards about god that are out there? You probably have seen them, the "Keep honking and i'll make traffic longer" -GOD billboards. They were put up anonymously, but b/c they were paid for, there was nothing you could do about it. Last thing I'm gonna say, I would laugh my ass off if I saw a billboard about my mother or something like that, so ompa you go ahead and do that.

That's all the billboard is. It's meant to attract attention so people will actually watch the network. If you ignore it, things like this will go away. Reactions like this are what advertisers want. How on earth do you think eminem sold so many records?

To be honest, it does offend me. I personally don't want people getting used to thinking Los Angeles is a Mexican city. The fact is, in ten years CA is supposed to be 90% Latino. Eventually, the overwhelming numbers of Spanish-speaking individuals in CA will bring up a conflict as to who California really belongs to.

EDIT: Oh, and Evil, if I had a vagina, and you knew about it, it would mean you were checking out a fifteen year-old male's reproductive organs. Were you disappointed you didn't find what you sought after? Ass.

I find that people whining about immigrants tends to be like people whining about newbs on forums.

Except that 15 million of them are illegal, and every one of them that has children or is young enough to be enrolled in school gets a k through 12 education worth $120,000, none of which they are paying for whatsoever, that comes straight out of our tax dollars.
Not to mention free healthcare that they are "paying" for, which really means they get that for free too because they aren't a legal U.S. citizen, which means they aren't paying taxes, which means they don't deserve the benefits that they are receiving. That's the only problem I have with them, is that they are making our economy stageringly unbalanced. If you don't believe those numbers, look them up for yourself, they are true.

Oh, I've looked at the numbers. You've only looked at half of them.

Acording to some anti-immigrant web sites I just read, the average family of illegal aliens costs us $2,700 more in benefits (like health care and education) every year than they pay in taxes. In their words: "Chilling!"

Net to the taxpayers: ($2,700)

The average migrant farm worker (translation: illegal immigrant) makes $5,000 per year for 25 weeks of work, isn't paid overtime, and is paid cash. California minimum wage is $6.75 and the workers put in an average of 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. By non-payment of Social Security and Medicare taxes, the employer cuts employment costs by 15.3%. (6.75 * 40 + 10.125 * 37) * 25 / .847 = $19,026.72. So illegal farmworkers, on average, subsidize the cost of your strawberries and oranges by $14k per year.

Net to the taxpayers: $14,026.72

Yes, the same thing applies to those who work in the kitchens of restaurants, as day laborers, as housekeepers, gardeners, etc. You can't have it both ways. Either the cost of pretty much everything produced in America goes up substantially, or we give our illegal work force free health care and education for their kids.

The life expectancy of an immigrant farm worker is 49 years even with all the wonderful health care we give them. Why don't you go work the fields so we can send them home to starve in their own country instead of here?

Here's the thing: the very nature of our economic system requires a lower-class. We need a group of people who are so desperate for work, they will scrub toilets for $2.15 and hour. This sort of desperation is a rarity among Americans, but full-on strong amongst our Neighbor to the south. Seriously, who do you know that would work their ass off in the most demeaning of jobs for $5.25 an hour when they could head on into their local White Castle for a $10 an hour job?
