hey everyone, im new to this homemade stuff and the modding as well, frends and i have decided that our stock guns won't cut it and are thinking about making homemades, only problem is, I bought some 1/2" PVC piping and my mega stefans wont even fit halfway in, I later found out that its 1/2" PVC Conduit, is there ne difference, are my darts for some reason (5/8") fatter than normal, am I just a screw up and can't figure out the obvious problem? help

Pvc conduit/pvc dont have consistant inner diameters, but my experiene with both is that pvc conduit always has a smaller inner diameter, so I'd pick up some pvc. Inner diameters are inconsistant in pvc/cpvc, and outer diameters arent very consistant with darts either.

No worries, jb. And good to have you at NerfHaven. Fun stuff, really.

About SCH40 PVC electrical conduit; I'm going to assume it's the medium gray tubing you're referring to.

I work with both 1/2" SCH40 PVC water pipe, and 1/2" SCH40 PVC conduit, and for the brands I'm exposed to, they're basically the same, size wise. Like THIRST said though, any PVC is inconsistent with inner diameter, as the standards for PVC fittings are actually more consistent with OD, for the sake of fittings, etc. (Strange, huh. 1/2" SCH40 PVC isn't even 1/2" in ID or OD, it's 5/8" ID and 11/16" OD...???) I've had both 1/2" PVC water pipe and conduit fit excellently, and also had some not fit at all...like your situation.

But it also depends on your FBR. I've bought several bags (Frost King brand) of FBR in both 1/2" (micro stefan) and 5/8" (mega stefan) sizes, and there were variations in size by differing BAGS. Off the same Home Depot shelf! Amazing.

I look at it as a crapshoot. Were I you, I'd buy a quantity of FBR, craft some stefans, then when it's time to go barrel shopping, take a couple of sample darts with you so you can see which PVC fits the darts best (a good, firm slip fit without twisting), then when you find the stuff that fits, buy as much as you think you'd need for your application.

That's the beauty of Nerf modification. You can't screw up. You just need to make some slight adjustments with materials that are cheap as can be. Enjoy.

Great advice Piney, thanks a bunch. Your right about the variations in size (varified it with the darts they are Tago Stopdrafts and some are MUCH wider in diameter than others). As for the piping goes, you know your stuff because you were right about it being a medium gray. Next time I go I'll check witht the darts and hopefully have better results, because with this pipe I can't even fit an inch of the dart in before I start twisting and even with the twisting I get maybe an inch if I'm lucky. Anyways, thanks for the advice :D
