Last weekend, instead of Nerfing due to the rain, for March war, Langley, Fred, OMC and I went to an indoor paintball field in Toms River, NJ. In all fairness, their rental equipment was real quality. Other then leaky hoses which are easily fixed by blowing air through them, I'd probably say that their rental stuff (two guppy holster, Mag Semi, and HPA) was definetely better then my own setup (A5 running co2). Past the rental equipment, everything else was lame. I knew this was going to be a bad situation when the guy running the place was an extreme idiot. Langley went to buy a pair of gloves. Now they were dye gloves, so I don't question they were quality, but I would move to say they're not as good as mine. Maybe nicer, but not as good. I spent 15 dollars on mine, this idiot wanted 40 for this pair of gloves. Langley was also wearing full camo, and the gloves were bright blue. I told him I'd take a shot to the hand before I bought a pair of 40 dollar gloves. He agreed.
Once we got out on the field, which was an adventure in and of itself, we had a couple of decent rounds, and found out that Fred is pretty decent at Rec Ball. We met a couple of guys we really got along with well, and things seemed to be going well. Then the "Jersey Shooters" decided they wanted to play. I knew things were going to suck when they all wanted to be on the same team and we out numbered 9 to 6. The round started, and you'd think these guys were playing tornament ball. All of a sudden the room errupts in a thunderous sound, and before any of us could get to bunkers, we were all hit, and not just once. No, we were hit ten times each just about.
This went on for most of the day, and we just decided to leave. I was a little boysterous about my feelings of this place, although I don't think I was nearly as bad as the others were making it out. As I'm cleaning up I hear one of the "shooters" say to another, "Hey did you use a whole case of paint today?" I look at OMC and say, "Hersh, did you use a whole bag of paint today?" This is the part I don't get. I understand these guys like to play tornament ball, and I guess I have to accept that someone wants to just shoot 10 cases of paint a day for pure entertainment, but it doesn't make any damn sence.
These guys go out and buy 1000 - 2000$ markers, then load it up with rediculously expensive paint, usually running around 80 - 100 bucks a case. Now it's fine with me if these guys want to do this, really, it's not my money, so if they want to waste nearly 10 grand on paintball, they should go right ahead. However, I payed good money to go to this place and play, and I don't appreciate being target practice (which would be appropriate if these guys actually fucking aimed instead of just spraying alot of paint) for these penis compensating retards.
With that said, I'm actually in the process of selling my A5. I'm going stock class. Screw these guys, I just want one shot. One shot to nail one of these SOB's. Sure they might spray 400 bucks in a day and hit me a bunch, but how's it goign to feel to take a mask shot from a pump gun? One shot, one kill, not one hopper, one kill.
Really, I don't get it and never will. Nerf will always be better anyhow.

EDIT: I don't have anything against semis, but I do have something against markers tha can shoot more than 6bps. What's the point? Fast-shooting is neccesary in some cases(no pun intended) but you don't more than 6bps. I love paintball anyway, no matter what speeds or types or markers there are. I do have a lot of respect for those pump and stock class players who own guys with $1000 markers.

I've played paintball from the times of the ".68 Automag", PMI-3, and all the Splatmaster series (Splatmaster, Rrapide, etc.). The first marker I ever used was a Tippmann SL-68 (original one!), and the first marker I owned was a Tippmann Pro-carbine.
Back then it was still about fun, not so-called "firepower". The most we could muster out of the Automags was perhaps 10-12 bps, but it wasn't about spraying. All the hoppers were gravity fed, non-powered, so it was still about shot placement, movement, and minimizing exposure. Those were good days.
I still like paintball, but the hobby / sport has evolved tremendously, and ultimately has become a conflict of the "haves and have-nots". It's become a matter of who has the most money, or who kisses the most asses to get some sponsorship, and the attitudes that accompany so-called "professional" paintballers has descended to where even some rec-ballers who want to emulate "pros" border on becoming sociopaths. Not to mention the fact that they seem to attain some kind of pleasure in shooting up cases of paint like the Cheney cronies like to burn oil. I don't need that for a hobby.
That said, I am a die-hard stock class paintball fan. Stock classers are pump-action, 12-gram CO2 powered, tube fed markers that, in my humble opinion, is the closest thing to Nerfing in play. The entire emphasis is on shot placement and minimzing exposure...HEY...that's just like the "good old days"!
I have probably THE standard of stock class markers, the Phantom. Available in all kinds of configurations, it is reliable, killer accurate out of the box, and most of all, affordable (start at $199 in basic setup, mine was $299 "duded up".)
Sorry about the image size...the Phantom is the stainless finish one.
I can have fun at the field rec-balling for less than 20 bucks...and actually make decent kills against those with markers that cost 3-5 times as much as mine. With about 200 less shots, too.
Sorry to clog this thread up, but I am passionate about paintball being what it used to be...a game of strategy, accuracy, and teamwork, not with so much emphasis as firepower and paint volume. To each his own.
But I like Nerf...much better.

Thanks Piney. That, in two sentences, is the reason I nerf.I still like paintball, but the hobby / sport has evolved tremendously, and ultimately has become a conflict of the "haves and have-nots". It's become a matter of who has the most money
My income has gone up ten-fold since I last played PB so now I guess I'm one of those guys who could spend a ton on expensive equipment and piss off everyone else. Having been on the other end of that treatment, I've lost the desire to play that game.
I want to teach my kids how to make something fun with their own creativity rather than thinking they have to buy their entertainment.
For what it's worth, this is also the reason I fence. There is very little difference between a $90 epee and a $900 epee. There is a huge difference between someone who has been fencing for a year vs a decade or someone who practices once a month vs daily. In short, it's about creativity and skill, not money.

And I love it.
Piney, I'm about to place an order from CCI, I want something for when I'm running to those "last dregs" of paint during rec weekends...how long does it take to ship? That's with a custom anno, too...have you seen anyone running them on HPA? Like, with the small vert bottles? I'm very reluctant to go back to Co2, even for that, even though it would be very nice for the wallet...does it mind the liquid too much? Maybe I'll grab a Stabalizer, I've wanted an excuse to get one for a while...My other option is to grab one of the WGP pumps, that way I can have a good loaner I can convert to semi if I need to. I've always been partial to Autocockers, but never owned one.
I'm rambling, don't mind me. Do yourself a favor, stick with Nerf if you can. Otherwise you'll end up blowing $80 a week.

Also, as Pineapple and Cxwq said, alot of paintball is dependent on the amount of money you have. Someone can go out and get a $500+ paintball gun that fires 100 rounds per minute, and depending on the rules of the game, win just because they have a gun that shoots faster than everyone elses.
With Nerf, you can only get so much for your money (as far as stock weapons go). There is a point where investing more money into the weapons themselves will just get you more weapons, not more powerful and faster ones. That is the main reason why I am using Nerf for my Live Roleplaying game. You know exactly what each gun can do before you bring it onto the feild, so you dont get the unpleasant suprise of someone being able to fire 10+ darts at once, or 3 darts per second. It makes the game more dependant on skill.
edit: Besides, you cant really play paintball in public parks, which makes Nerf that much more accessible.
I personally would love to see how these "Jersey Shooters" would fare in a stock only Nerf war. Im sure it would be hilarious.

Yes, I've been in bad situations, like when the guy with a tricked out shocker cornered me and I got hit from 20-30' about 15 times, but I got over it, shit happens. Never happened again, just had to learn to get to a bunker quick, move quickly, and not stick my head out.
...so it was still about shot placement, movement, and minimizing exposure. Those were good days.
Alot of the game is STILL those aspects, actually, even more so in some respects. You need to minimize your exposure even more in order to lessen your chances of getting hit, and if you don't move fast enough, you're absolutely fucked.
Don't get me wrong, I still like nerf more, but I think many people downgrade the game of paintball way too much.

Rags - check out Wevo paintball. He's a guy that distributes on SCP forums. He gets the guns cheaper because he's a dealer, the direct website is a real rip off. The one I just ordered I got a quote for 340 on the phone, and this guy got me a price of 280. Buying it directly from the company is never cheaper.
Para - this is where you're right. Nerf isn't about who has the best gear, or who's paying for your stuff, or what jersey your wearing. Even though I like to say that Hersh and I have a Hasbro sponsorship, we about drank the nitefinders we bought away. For the most part, it really has turned into who can put out the most paint. This doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm not in any kind of loser mindset ever, but I do like to think of myself as a marksmen and a conservitive one at that. Think about it this way. I have an A5 and when I go to the local field, I can't hit shit. So I might as well not hit shit and save some cash at the same time. I've had alot of the torney guys at the field I play with (believe it or not, they really are all nice guys) tell me I should go with a stock class marker, because when I shoot alot, I don't hit a thing, but when I'm getting hits, I'm normally a one or two shots off the hopper sticking up from the snake, or the sneaky shot to the hip from one bunker away. A5 is just too heavy and big to do shit like that.
Ompa - I'm going to semi disagree with you, but that's not really directed towards me anyway. I have no problem with paintball. Even with the semi I'm very conservative and don't go through a whole lot of paint. I really don't care too much about the tornament players in general. The tornament guys I play with are really nice. During Rec ball, they really try to take it easy, because to them, it's a waste to shoot more then a hopper and a guppy, and even then most of them feel like retards. I get along with them well because I can actually shoot straight and they like that it's effective. They know the only time I've had trouble are from the full auto spyder toaters who play really dirty and way more then over shoot. If there's anything worse then an asswhole with a timmy, wearing a Jersey, it's an asshole with a Image in camo...on a speedball field.
Now as far as the assholes go. These guys don't bug me that much. They're cocky as hell and run their mouths but they're about as deep as a puddle. Ask anyone who was with us that day, they all stayed away from me once I started running my mouth right back. Once these guys see a nub who won't take their shit, they'll shut up really quick. They might be assholes, but everyone who's been on this site for more then a minute knows that I'm a dick. And if you've seen Team America, you know that dicks fuck assholes...so it's all good. Let them shoot me with their 1800 dollar gun, I'll just key their cars.

At the bottom right, there is a link for Wevo paintball. There isn't much on his site, but he can get you anything. Your best bet is registering to the forums and PMing him. He's a nice guy and won't rip you off.
For the record, custom guns do take a minute to get, but it's not an outragously long time.

I think paintball is pretty fun, but when every single person is just playing the "spray and pray" game it gets pretty boring. I think Nerf is harder and takes more skill than paintball because you have to reload and prime, when you don't in paintball. The closest thing to reloading is if you have a "rock and cock" pump gun with a ten shot hopper. Then you have to pump one time every shot (it's an easy pump because it drops the paintball into the chamber, rather than filling up an airtank) and reload every ten shots.
I agree with Piney and Bad_Karma. I like Nerf a lot more than paintball (funny how my account name is MattPB though )
