This article is nearing two years of age, and I feel that the list needs to be updated and revamped. There are more hot spots in Nerf now then there were when this article was written. As small part of a project of mine that will be unveiled in the near future, I'd like to update this article to focus the spotlight on the top 5 Nerf Spots in the Country. Believe me, if there is a legitimate case for a top 10, I'd love to have that instead.

I can almost guarantee that Ohio is off the list, as I have not heard much of them since shortly after this article was written. You can beat that NJ and Cali are still up there, but I'd like to focus more on the additions we've had to this community since this article was originally typed. Feel free to make comments below.

Strongholds of Nerf

The NIC is made up of Nerfers from all around the United States, Canada, and a hodge-podge of others from around the world. With a community this diverse, there are bound to be strong points and weak points everywhere. My goal is to point out to you three of our strong points and highlight what puts them on the list.

First I will answer what is a “Stronghold of Nerf.” My definition of a stronghold of Nerf is an area/state where major wars occur, there is an abundance of clans and individuals, and the Nerfers in that area have got their act together. These places may host inter-clan wars and major wars alike. Maybe they house a large number of members of the NIC, some of which are in moderation/administration places. With all of these things considered I have come up with three states that have qualified for this honor, and the order in which they qualify.

1. California
2. New Jersey
3. Ohio

California is the biggest area for Nerfers in the world. Not surprisingly their size in square miles and population factor into their status. The list of wars is impressive. The list of major wars is as follows: LANOs, SDNOs, and Armageddon. These wars have become some of the largest in the country. You know when the author is dying to fly across the country to make one of their wars, that there is something special about this state. The webmasters of NerfOnline, NerfHaven, NerfHQ, and NerfEvolved all reside in California. The amount of individual Nerfers there is numerous. It is safe to say that no other state or specific area can beat out California for the “Stronghold of Nerf’ title.

New Jersey is, without a doubt, second in the running. It remains the home of famous clans: the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the NJ Nerfers Organization, LGLF, and the Lawn Chair Mafia. Besides individual clan wars, this state has managed to gather in two wars that are the largest on the East Coast, APOC and Reckoning. The wars have attracted over 20 participants each and are expected to grow even more in the future. Even with these two wars, Gnome Fest is trying to take off as well. With the wars being so publicized that out of state Nerfers are continually making the trip, you know this state has its stuff together.

Ohio remains next on my list. They have organized several OHNOs periodically throughout the year, and hope to emulate the other two states in the larger wars business soon. The state boasts clans such as the Neo Faction and the LaMarios. The state manages to keep its respect through Nerfers that have made large prospects.

Unfortunately, I wanted to make my list longer, but was unable to because it is hard to deem other places as the “Strongholds of Nerf.” To you guys that didn’t make my list, prove me wrong. I would love to see more states taking responsibility like the three states listed have. You guys just need to get our there to war and get yourselves organized. You can do it.

I believe I have a strong case for Vancouver.
Vancouver gave us 4 Vancouver Area Nerf Series.
Vancouver gave us Zero Talent.
Vancouver gave us Stefan.
Vancouver gave us me.... ok thats not as important.

Vancouver lacks lots of Nerfers, but we have some damn good ones. ;)

And I thought me and my two clan members were alone. I'm near Youngstown, are there many Nerfers up here? Where is OHNO normally held?

I want to update the list to reflect the current Nerf Community. Past contributors will not be included at all in consideration. I thought I made that clear in my note above. The true test of a stronghold of nerf is if it can stand the test of time.

Keep the areas coming. I'll probably be scanning both forums Nerf Wars sections to get some unbiased information on your suggestions as well.

I'd put Michigan ther on the list. Two major clans, though the dark wolves (Alexthebeast and Forgotten Hero) don't post they stilla re active and nerfing. Along with 3M and a few independant nerfers we put together some good wars fairly regularly.

Here in Orlando, FL, we've got somewhere around 20 nerfers, with wars coinciding with every anime convention held in Orlando. Small-scale skirmishes also tend to break out wherever two or more of us gather.

Chicago seems to be the place where the nerfers of the midwest will unite. As shown in the Christmas Clash war planning page, even if a large number of people couldnt make it to this one, we have quite a few nerfers. And just wait till summer... oh boy! we are going to hold a war that will rival apoc and geddon!

Maybe in numbers, not in talent, kiddo. -_-

Just kidding. Glad to see larger events being organized. Hopefully it means the hobby is healthy and that's good for all of us.
