The iRiver H320 is the shit, seriously. It is amazing. I'd rather have that because it can play videos than have an iPod because of accesories.

Hmm.. add more junk on to something I wish to be a compact music player or make my music player a videp player as well, for cheaper? I wonder...

I don't have anything against iPods. They're cool, but iRivers kick their ass. Plus, everyone has an iPod. I know I'm being kid of childish, but it's never as cool if too many people have it.

Also, if you do get an iPod, don't get a mini. Mini's are worthless and I hate them.

Many people say they buy them because they are cheaper. It's not worth it. Mini's have a capacity of 4gbs and are $250. Regular 20gbs have, well, 20 gbs of capacity and are $300. That is 5 times as much for $50. If you can afford a music player that is $250, you can squander 50 bucks more, so don't be a cheap ass.

Secondly, people get them for the colours. Well for about 15 bucks you can get a iPod skin that protects the whole thing from scratches, and adds colour. They have many designs. They are made by companies such as Skintight or ExoSkins and some look really kickass. Unlike the extremely gay metallic baby blue I see too many guys walking around with.

So do yourself a favor, get and iRiver H320. If your against that, get a regular iPod. If you really want a Mini, I herby declare you a faggot.

Edit: Oops! I spelled faggot, faggit. The "o" is next to the "i" slip of the finger, my bad.

Well, you know what "mini-computer" means. If its based on XP, then it's bound to have bugs. I don't want freezing.

*cough*WinCE*cough*

What the fuck did I tell you, this isn't a chat board, start posting useful shit or I'm suspending you. Seriously, this is your last opportunity because you're not contributing anything to this site or any conversation. Knock it off, this one really is your last warning.

Hope you like NHQ.

Sauve - I think it's because you can get a much nicer player for the same price. If anyone buys an ipod they should realize that all they're getting is a nice looking player. Every other aspect of it does not come close to matching the Zen Jukebox. It's cheaper, has more space and doubles as a flash drive. As far as cheaper mini players, anything will do really, the mini is just a god awful expensive one that looks nice. I wouldn't waste my money.

300-400 songs per CD? That's total bullshit. A music CD-R, the only kind that can play on a portable CD-player, can hold 80 minutes, max. In order to hold 300 songs, you'd have them all .26 of a second long.

A data CD might be able to hold 300-400 songs, but you still can't play it on a CD player.

It's called "compression," the way it works is you compress a file to a tiny size so they can fit on a regular, 700 MB cd!

and yeah, agreed with Talio.

Grinch: You can get portable CD players that play mp3 files on data discs. Chill out.

I thought the newset Ipod's had a rechargable battery. I was almost sure of it. My friend has the one with the hand wheel thingy and his holds 10,000 songs at 20gb and its rechargable.

The iRiver H320 specs on the website don't say anything about playing movies.

Oh, and Hammer, of course the battery is rechargeable! Do you think you would spend $300 to use an iPod for 12 hours and then throw it away?

Ok, it's been a day since I last posted and alot seems to have happened. Grinch, they don't say anything about playing movies because they don't out of the box. However, if you go to www.misticriver.net, there are many forums and an FAQ's section about how to upload movies and use it as a web browser for each type of player. You just have to upgrade the firmware. Another plus of the I-river, cancelling out the "mini-computer" minus--IPOD FIRMWARE SUCKS. You CANNOT upgrade ipod firmware unless you get someone who works at apple and is your friend to do so. I know a good deal about programming and how it works, etc., and iriver has GREAT firmware which is upgradeable. I upgraded to the 1.27 korean version because it ELIMINATES DRM, which is impossible on ipods. You also don't have to use windows-based firmware, i just chose too because i'm good with windows. There are many different types of firmware which you can upgrade, both by iriver for free or by private companies for a cost. And talio, the Zen Jukebox was my second choice, they are fantastic as well and are very cheap. However, i went with the h320 because of the color screen. And if, just to clear things up, ANYONE chooses to get an ipod mini, for the love of god get a gateway photo jukebox or an iriver h10. Color screens for the same price. --Fishman

I'm looking into some mp3 players and the four main ones I've found are iPods, iRivers, Creative, and Rio. My media needs aren't too extreme. I would mainly be purchasing the player for the music aspect. What player do you recommend?

I would advise the Shuffle.

I've used it working out at the gym, it works great. It holds more songs than I listen to in the hour and a half I'm there, and you CAN put a playlist on it. It's small, lightweight, and it sounds good too.

Of course, I love my old-skool 10-gig.

You don't know what you're talking about. The iPod firmware is upgradable, is offered on Apple's website for ANYONE to use, and has been upgraded at least half a dozen times. I think it takes a max of five mouse clicks to upgrade the firmware.
What exactly sucks about the iPod's firmware? Maybe you don't like the interface, but claiming the firmware sucks would be a reaction to freezing, skipping, crashing, etc, which I've heard of happening only a handful of times ever, to any owner of an iPod.

I upgraded to the 1.27 korean version because it ELIMINATES DRM, which is impossible on ipods.

Wrong. The DRM on the iPod only applies to protected AAC files, and it's easy as falling off a log to rip the DRM out of an AAC file, on Windows or Mac with Hymn.

I do know what i'm talking about most of the time. Even my sister, who works for apple as a tech, agrees that ipod firmare sucks. You are correct regarding upgradable firmware (albeit sucky firmware)(my bad); its been 2 months since i upgraded to my h320 and i at least was never able to upgrade my firmware no matter how hard i tried...not even my sister could get it to. HOWEVER, DRM is (or was) a major issue on ipods. I haven't been able to use that much if any downloaded music and even music from some actual cd's on my ipod when i did use that piece of shit 40 gig...waste of 400 bucks. IN MY OPINION, and many of my friends', ipod firmware does, in fact, suck. And it isn't neccessarily the interface i don't like, its everything about it. The architecture of itunes and the ipod are incredibly undesirable to at least 15 other people who actually know software, not including myself. And i wouldn't trade my H320 for any other mp3 player; they're the best of 4 MP3's i've tried (ipod 40 gig 3rd gen, sony hd-3, dell jukebox are the others). So, yes, i will admit i was wrong regarding the firmware upgradeablility. Otherwise, please prove me wrong. Which i'm sure you will.
