For those who may be concerned about this site's ability to cope with a similar attack, I have an automated process that generates and pulls down a weekly backup of our home directory and our database onto two geographically diverse PCs. All non-forum content is generated on my local system before being uploaded to the site. At worst, we could lose one week of forum posts and zero site content.

I would do it daily but it's non-trivial to grab a 600MB file on my cable modem.

Well, I've just gotta post, that BlizzHackers isn't forums belonging to the fuckers that did this. I am a member of BlizzHackers (i get Battle.net channel bots from there) and they did not do this. They are a site for the miniscle D2 map hacks and such, Blizzhackers aren't real hackers, just had a really fucked up member there. To me, that thread has been deleted...Might just be my pc.

Is this illegal or something? This is personal internet space paid for and owned by someone. Is their any kind of legal action possible? Could we inform some kind of establishment about such a thing?

And if NHQ will be back, can we change the format so it's not hackable?

I'm Pretty sure that Hacking is a federal offense, and if Spanky wants to take the time he could report the attack to the Feds. Not that I think they'd do much but it couldn't hurt to at least notify the police or the local DA. The other route to go is Law suit, if the Hacker is a member of a web forum then the site owners can be legally compelled to release info needed to track the guy down.

Yes, there is a possibility of legal action if Spanky chooses to go that route. I have requested the IP and logs for the perpetrator from the forum he posted the login info on. I will share that with Spanky if they deliver them to me.

Considering it's a hacking forum, I'm not entirely sure that they will give out the details, but, you never know your luck in the big city.

I read the 5 Pages before, but back then it was only locked. Must have been deleted quite recently [within past 24 hours].

Yeah, so it's not over yet. And I will be very disapointed id Spanky doesn't pursue legal action.
CXWQ- You own. I knew that, but the work you're doing beyond obvious duty, that doesn't even relate to this site, shows how the nic really is. It's a tad closer, or maybe it alway was, but not as obvious.

There is an old saying; "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" Spanky wouldn't be too bad off contacting the other victims of this D4vid guy and working with them to report his ass to the authorities. It helps build a case, this guy isn't doing a one time hack he is becoming a nuisance to the internet public. Grr.

You still don't get it, BH isn't a hacking site persay, they hack D2, SC, etc...things that are really retarded, but if you are a serious D2 player, you can't say you haven't been tempted to use a MH. They also have bots and such. They do have a section for hacking, but its all anti-hacking and "Hacking Wargames" where someone sets up a site as secure as they get it, and a bunch of people try to crack it. Sorry to post this ever 5 minutes, but you are being repititive. And, he most likely will release the info since he (the admin) posted on NHQ simpathetic to what happened.
