Hello. i was wondering. i have been surfing through many nerf websites (mostly pre 1995, and consisting of a clan made up of 10 year olds) and looking at the guns deemed worthy of acompanying me on the feild of battle. i happend to stumble upon many a website saying that the nm2500 / sm3000 is one of the best trooper guns out there. i was wondering, becuase i need more guns for my team, is the sm2500 / sm3000 worth modding and using? just need some clearification. thank you

yes. i know that gun is good and all. but i already have the sm 3000, so i was wondering if it is worth modding it all up and spending time / materials on the sm 3000. i would really like to know if it is worth my time. thank you

The main weaknesses with a Supermaxx 3000 are the mechanically rotated turret (From the pump stroke) and the pump. So, really, I guess the main problem is the pump. On the newer Blue and Yellow Supermaxx 3000, they increased the diameter of the O-ring used in the pump, and this manages to leak air even when the air release valve is plugged. I only have the experience of one gun, and no one has posted anything agreeing with my observation, so I could be wrong, but the large diameter on that pump seems to impede performance a lot. As for the older ones (green or yellow tank), the only weakness is the turret, that pump-action rotation mechanism, what with it's loving glitchiness.

As to the actual "older" ones, like the LE 2500 (I'm not good on the SM3000 ancestry here), there are few problems, due to an air-actuated rotation mechanism. Or so I'm told.

All versions can easily be modified for any barrel type, though metal barrel pieces really increase turret weight, which can affect performance in it's rotational mechanism.

Short answer: no.

It's not worth investing the time and money to mod a gun with a janky rotation mechanism. Especially since the added weight of decent barrels just makes it worse.

The AT3k is vastly superior in basic functionality. I've modded two of them now and they never over/under rotate as long as you push the pump handle all the way forward before each pump stroke.

I would stick with crayola or PETG on the 3k if possible. The weight of brass or CPVC makes it slightly less reliable in Spoon's experience.

The 2500's barrel rotation system actually can handle some extra turret weight, especially if the air release valve is plugged. This is probably due to the fact that the higher amount of pressure you can achieve, the quicker the turret rotates, and the higher air pressure can turn the mechanisms the neccesary amount even with added weight. So, with the extra weight, you might have to pump twice to make the barrels turn with PVC or other barrels. But other than the 2500, I wouldn't waste my time to modify any of the 3000's, just because it won't perform very well. Like everyone says, pick up a Airtech 3000, it'll be worth your while.
