in my 40mm pvc barrel i sometimes use shaved down pool noodles with a chunk of lead hotglued into the end.
they go all over the place.
one day i was searching google and i decided to rifle the barrel.

i started with a .5m lenght of 20mm pvc and cut 4 diagonal slits in the end of it,
i then epoxied scalpel blades into the slots.
when the epoxy dried i slowly slid the 20mm pvc down my 40mm barrel and made sure that the blades were slicing into the barrelthen shoved it down with another lenght of pvc.
the slits are reasonably clean, after running a few golfballs through it.
and now my pool noodles go straight.

Well you would have to be one of the only people who have managed to get decent results using rifling. Well, rifled petg doesnt succeed at least.

It probably works a lot better because of the scale of the pool noodles.

and the blades only spun around 3 times, if you have too much spiral it slows down the dart heaps.

I'm impressed that you actually did a successful barrel rifling at all. The mechanics are not trivial.

The results are a sign that your darts weren't properly weighted with respect to the weight of the foam. If they were properly weighted, rifling wouldn't do anything but slow the dart down.

but problem solved

EDIT: Yeah...Ignore this post if you want to, its misleading. Although it would be cool if you had like a arrow with some grooves in it and it ran along with some fins on the pipe like the cutter.

So you just had the blades at the end? Its like some kind of Reversed Rifleing. I like that.

I don't have anything against you or anything, but what inch sizes are the pvc peices. It's getting a little anoying. Can someone give me a chart of some sort like:

X mm=Y inches

Thanks

EDIT: Do'h, sorry

X mm=Y inches

Google for it.

20 mm in inches

Please, please please please stop making Americans look like idiots by forcing everyone to convert units for you when it's so damn simple to do it yourself. I'm sure at least half the people who read this forum have no problem dealing with metric.

how did you keep a steady spiral for the grooves? i'm assuming you just rotated it by hand as you pushed, but i'm interested as to how you attempted to keep the spiral rotating at a steady rate.

Ahhhh... Ok, since I just stabbed myself in the end of my thumb whith a exacto knife, I realized that if you hit someone accidentally with that barrel, you could scar them for life.

Weasel, if I'm reading this correctly, (tell me if I'm not), then the 20mm pvc was only used to make the grooves in the 40mm pvc. It isnt employed on any gun as a real barrel, so he's probably not going to hit anyone with it.

On top of the fact that this is Six Months Old, you have pointed out the painfully obvious.

Not really, because a real rifling machine is made for steel and not that large (40mm) and itindents the rifling into the inside which would cause pvc to split/severely weaken.

The size of a rifling machine is dependant on the bore and length of barrel it's made for. They do rifle the barrels of those things called "rifles", strangely enough. Additionally, there have historically been at least three methods for achieving rifling including button pulling, cutting, and hammering. A cutting type rifler would actually work very well on PVC - much better than it does on steel.
