Ok I already have a Creative Zen Xtra 30 gig mp3 player but I want something a lot smaller and cheaper that will be easier to use when I'm riding my bike and less of a hassle if it gets stolen or lost (only $99). I have a windows 98 computer so I cant get Itunes but I was wondering if I would still be able to put songs on the shuffle from windows media player 9. I can do it with my zen form wmp but I don't know if the shuffle is somehow different. Yes I'm willing to download any drivers needed.

thanks

All iPods are specifically designed for iTunes, and nothing else. But, there is a program called ephPod that will allow you to download songs without the requiremnet of iTunes.

As for the iPod shuffle, it sounds perfect for your needs. Apple is a great company and their products are pretty damn sweet.

I have a question about ipods and such, and i didnt want to make a new topic.

I have an ipod mini, but I accidentally cracked the screen a bit. It's really bothering me. I was wondering if someone knows how i could possibly repair this problem. Thanks for any help.

Gah! That's what you have warranties and such...

I take it you didn't purchase the insurance or this isn't a legit purchase?

Don't get a shuffle. You can something from Rio for the same price and twice as much space. Or you can get the same space and save 30 - 40 bucks. Trust me, Ipods are overpriced and other then the fact they look cool, there's no other reason to buy one.

Good choice though, I'm about to buy an Xtra sometime soon. The 60 gig, but I'm going to mod it so I can use it as a flash drive.

I understand your point though. Those things are expensive. I have a 64 meg Rio, I added a 256 card to it. It's nice, and I'm not worried about losing it when I'm hiking and such.

iPods rock, but not the Shuffle. You can't choose what song you want to play, it's always on shuffle. Also, Apple screwed up when they programmed the randomization. Sometimes it will think it didn't play a song that it just played, and it will repeat the song multiple times. There was an article about it in the local newspaper, and the reporter bought one and was completely unsatisfied. He said sometimes it will repeat the same song 3-6 times in a row. You should either get a Mini, or get something not by Apple. Try an iRiver MP3, they have one that holds 512 MB (0.5 GB) and is only slightly longer than the 256 (0.25 GB) version. You can probably hack it to hold more, just Google it. Those iRiver MP3 players are TINY!

Actually, the iPod Shuffle has a non-random setting. I've tried it; it works well.

I also must say that the Shuffle is cheaper/better working than MANY other players I have seen and/or used for the same price, especially the 1G version.

Id say get something from a different company for cheaper. I also have a Jukebox Zen Xtra that I have recently put an 80gb drive in, and I love it.

Apples products are expensive. All the time. Go with a company that doesnt pay to have their stuff advertised in other advertisements and you'll save money and lose little in terms of satisfaction.

I still want to kill Apple for their little "Vampire Hunter Playlist" plug in Blade Trinity. Because we all know that having earbuds in wouldnt help Vampires sneak up on you or anything.

I hate to make a starcraft comparison here, but to me, Apple is like protoss to Microsoft's terran. Apple products are really really nice quality, they cost a lot to maintain (and rebuy ).

ANyway, if you're gonna get the shuffle, get the iPod mini instead...

I disagree. The Ipod Mini is the biggest ripoff out there. There is not much space, but it's not worth it it to just put a few of your songs on it, like the shuffle is designed to do. Either get a shuffle or go all the way and get a 20 gig.

Iron's partially right. Sometimes it's good to have a Mini, they are considerably smaller and lighter. But I still think my 20GB is tiny as hell. I still say don't get a Shuffle. Get something else. Like those iRivers I were talking about...

I'm not a huge creative fan myself. To the sound quality remark, that's gotta be bullshit. It should only depend on the headphones, files and possibly the headphone jacks [the only thing that may differ between brands] and not vary "much much" between brands. That's bullshit.

Actually it depends on the hardware and software the player uses. Sound quality can be VERY different between brands.

I dissagree. I'm all for my Mini. The size difference really does it for me. 4gigs is all I need anyway, so having the size and color I want really is a plus.

Hmm..maybe it depends person to person? just a thought? Nah...

I actually am really pleased with my mini because it is small and I've used up about 8/10 of the space, and thats prolly all I'll ever listen to, and since I run its quite effective (I asked for a small mp3 player that I could run with and got the mini, so hey, I'm content).

THere is a system out there for every person's need, so don't start firing mortars at each player...

Well the Shuffle's cool but get something else, I've seen 1 gig players for $100 before. I just can't stand that the Shuffle doesn't have a LCD screen. And about large HD player I'm gonna get a Zen Xtra, so much cheaper than a Ipod. Oh and since no one said anything at the MacWorld thread. Posted Image

Do not eat iPod Shuffle? Hah! I think that's funnier than the time I went to Target and saw one of those red foamy lifeguard life-saving floating device thingie and there was a warning thing on it that said "WARNING: This is NOT a floatation device!" even when the box itself labelled it as FLOATATION DEVICE.

I nailed an iPod mini for xmas. I knew i was getting it because mum and dad approached me about it. Usually each family member gets a main present for $100 give or take. So they decided to get the iPod mini for $99 with this Telstra phone. It's the Ericson k500i and its teh sexZors!

There is my nooblike rant.

It works for me ...
