Judging by the name, Zero Talent probably made one. He's a member, so contact him, or go to his site.

There is a variation on the zero valve over at http://www.lglf.net under research & development, but it hasn't actually been built yet. I'm going to work on it a bit in the next couple months if school doesn't get in the way, so check back for updates.

Several people have successfully made one, dont remember who though. Everyone else I talked to said theirs leaked, its hard to make a precise homemade valve, one sloppy thing and it leaks, hard to fix Im guessing too.

::shakes head::

Oh, dear.
Zero Talent was the guy who INVENTED Zero Valves..
I have attempted to make a semit-auto valve, but it leaks. Bad.
I do believe that Vntage made some valves of the like, but I'm not positive.

Vintage offered an extension to the sero valve which is essentially just a copy of any air-pressure valve found in nerf, a cone on a rod with rubber to seal it against a surface. The main prblem is getting everything to dry properly and simply seal up well. Button vavles,ball valves,hose valves and other valves are simply so cheap that there isn't much of a need to make a valve on your own. Go to my site Patents and check out the patent #'s to see if there are any exotic valve designs yo'd like to copy. The truth is is that a flat valve would work quite nicely against a surface though a cone-valve handles pressure easier and doesn't need to move as fast in order to work properly.

thanks.
i made the valve and it hold pressure for a fair while with the slightest leak.
i havent attached it or fired with it as of yet though.

Did you lubricate the o-rings? Putting some grease on them couldn't hurt, but don't use wd-40. It tends to dry up pretty quickly.

I heard it takes a good bit of air to work a zero valve unless it is small enough which in turn you get ranges that my farts can beat in battel.

Will you all please shut the fuck up? Yeah, he posted in an old topic, but two of you posted with flames, one who didn't know what he was talking about, and one who actually tried to help. It's idiotic. He necroed once, now he has been told to not do it again. Now answer his question so the thread can die again.

BP, the valve is a simple construct that does not yield great results. Basically, it is a PVC or CPVC air tank made from a section of PVC or CPVC with plugs/caps at each end. A hole is drilled in both caps. Through this hole, a rod is fitted. This rod must plug both holes. When it is pulled one way, the other side of the rod will leave the hole in its respective cap and open the "valve" (the path between the output hole and the pressurized tank). The air will then leave through that hole. The valve is difficult to use well because the rod must slide easily and still maintain a good seal. There are better substitutes.

Sorry. I did not mean to necro, I was searching for air valves and did not notice the date on the thread.

What are the alternatives to the "zero-valve"? I have seen the outline of a valve here used by a fellow called CaptainSlug that looks something like this?

I am trying to play about 3 years worth of catch up here I suppose... I am very inclined towards more simple machine mechanical things, even clockwork and and other complex machines out of simpler machines, but pneumatics always seems to confound me.

No that's not a functional arrangement. You need a minimum of two o-rings (three is more typical) to make a directional control valve.
Here's the functional diagram
Posted Image
A = Inline Tank (low capacity for one shot)
P = Supply Tank (high capacity)
EA = Exhaust to barrel

I'm on my 12th valve design and will probably end up going through 2 or 3 more revisions before I end up with a design I'm 100% happy with. It's been a long process of trying to reduce the force load required to actuate the valve (below 5 pounds), and keep the valve design nonrestrictive in order to allow for a high flow rate at low pressure.
