Two awesome ones.
Introducting the Mac mini and the iPod shuffle.
99 dollars for the iPod (512 megs only, though)? That's great. And the $500 Mac is NOTHING to whine about. I'm buying one as soon as I get the money.
Looks like Apple is doing some good stuff for the year. Can't wait.

And no, that Mac mini is the entire computer. Like a Dell tower.

About the iPod, there's probably an unwritten limit to how small something should be. A music player as small as a pack of gum is pushing it in my opinion. If you're not careful, you could lose that real easy like. I like the idea though, assuming it works better than the normal iPods.

And over half of the MP3 player market.
Now, if only their computers would actually sell as well as the iPod...
Also, when you buy the computer, you can also buy a keyboard and mouse (wired or bluetooth) and a display. Although Apple's displays are very big and very expensive.

Ebay- 17" LCD Flat Panal monitor- $15 buy it nowI doubt Dell or any other company is "scared." Although Macs have a small hardcore following, that's just it, they have a small hardcore following. I think Apple makes up something like 10-15% of the PC market, maybe. A $500 comp is nice and all, but it doesn't include anything but the box itself: no monitor, keyboard, or mouse, where as PC companies usually include that kind of stuff. The small size is also no surprise; I remember using iMacs in high school that were literally just the CRT monitor with everything crammed inside it; all they did was remove the monitor and up the hardware. I think the style is cool, but that's about it. My 2C.
Mouse- probably about another 20 for an ok one, then again, most people already have one...
Keyboard - same thing
Total- ~55$, added to the 500, with a computer you can attach to any monitor in your house, buy the above 3 times and you have one for your study, your room, and your living room for 655$, tell me, can you do that with dell?

Besides, if Dell was afraid of that market segment, they would have addressed it already. You can build a Shuttle barebones PC up to better specs than the mini for about $400.
An equivalent Dell (small form factor) costs $800 and every company in the universe buys the things so Dell must be doing something right.
