Since I'm so new to NH, I'm not sure if anyone has tried or considered using a portable pressure sprayer. The idea of not having to pump as often made me think of larger air tanks. This could easily be mounted onto a backpack or a camelback. Yes, it could be more work to remove the pack, re-pump and put it back on. You may think I'm crazy, but what the hell... it may work.

Someone made a large back pack airtank for a powerclip designed to fire 250-300 shots. I believe they called it the beast. I know there are no schematics online but maybe you can put the information we have on the boards together and come up with a design of your own.

Great! Thanks Rusty. I read that some can be pumped to about 45 psi, but am not sure what that translates to in shooting capacity/longevity. I'll mess around with the couple I have just sitting in my garage and will get back to everyone.

What he did, if I remember, was take a crapload of PVC, put it into some weird pattern, add a pump, plumber's goop, duct tape and some (poly?) vinyl tubing that lead to the tank of the PC. I'll go search.

I've got a pic somewhere of the Beast. I'll dig it up when I get a chance.

It was just a square-ish backpack made from approximately 3" diameter PVC.

I don't think we let Jon use it in our wars, but it was pretty cool regardless.

Why didn't you let him use it in the wars out of curiosity? The powerclip still operated on normal pressures right? Or did he not have a regulator..

Our (YANO/Armageddon) definition of a homemade is "a gun with a non-Nerf (or Nerf-like) air source".

Under this definition, the Beast/PC is a homemade. It also happens to be one of the more benign casualties of that definition, but so it goes.

Manually pressurized air in PVC is a pretty "Nerf-like" source of propulsion, granted not in such high volume. The difference I see is the freakish ROF you'd get with something similar to that. I do see where xedice is coming from, it wouldn't be much different from a standard Powerclip if the regulating piston wasn't modified... seeing as you still need to conserve ammo and get in RANGE for that thing to work.

I can understand the confusion however.

Just to add to the convo...

Vacc and I converted a large Super Soaker CPS (very large) water cannon into a nerf gun. It had two barrels, and if you pumped it up a bit, you could fire two stefans about 130 feet... however, if you made heavier darts (which we are generally against since we always felt that a unniversal ammo type is always best in a war) they would launch about 200 feet (that's an about because they went so damn far I could no longer measure due to obstructions. We used a can of compressed air to fill the air chamber since it took some 90 or so pumps to pump up.

I can understand the confusion however.

I thought spoon clarified the rule in such a way that the beast was acceptable. Something along the lines of "The mechanism which delivers the air to the barrel must be from a nerf gun" or some other modification to the rule that implied that The Beast was fine because it didn't alter the volume of air that was delivered to the barrel per shot.

I had this idea once…but instead of a portable pressure sprayer I would use what is called an rf15 tank. If anyone knows old cars then you would know this tank. It is used to refill air-condition in the elderly cars. It is filled with Freon (yes a chemical that is upon the ban.) Basically this tank is everything we are looking for in a portable air tank. There about 10’’ long with a 3’’ radius. They have a tubeless tire valve pre-attached to the tank itself. AND you can most likely get they cheep…if not free. Once the Freon is used up the tank is useless to the mechanic. So to get these tanks, one would just have to go to there local mechanic and ask for one. I have also heard that gas stations also use these tanks. I wanted to look into this. I am not sure of the exact amount that these tanks hold but know that they are around 100psi, which is more that sufficient. You fill these tanks up with a compressor or for those who don’t have one, just a friendly visit to the 25cent air machine at your local gas station. Fill the tanks up the same way for would fill a tire. You could use a pump…but it would take you a while…yea. You would have to regulate the amount of air that these tanks would put out at a time. Hose handle trigger with a friendly ball valve…I think you get the idea. What do you guys think?
