You know how email is required to join this site. So why don't you include a 'newsletter' type thing that goes to all new users to someone (like ompa or w/e) could make that has the guns you can currently get, what sites to help you mod them, where to get supplies, etc. etc. etc. You might want to include CoC stuff on there too, but they won't read that anyway...
This could eliminate most unwanted newb posts (the ones where they could have searched and found a thread a week ago).

I'm just saying this because it's worth more of my time to come here and answer or develop ideas that aren't brought up every week.

So you're volunteering me to write a NH newsletter that people will probably never read. Jackass.

And, you realize as soon as winter break hits I'll be working on a "common problems" guide anyways, so expect that soon.

It makes no sence either. Make the people write a letter saying the stuff theyt no about the site and nerf. Tell them to write a letter saying all the rules of the site too. It might cut back on newbe's too.

It makes perfect 'sence.' If you make people write an essay before joining then your risking a very low influx of new nerfers; which is bad for the community. If you allow the people to read something which MAY answer their basic questions, then you'll have a more engaging community.

How's that for 'sence'?

..You have a good idea, It's just not very realistic. Here is why,

A. The forums are suppose to answer the question and give the information that one needs for further understanding of nerf. That is why we have a mod section, trading section, etc...

B. Even if they READ the newsletter, who's to say they will actually FOLLOW the instrections? Newbs will be Newbs, some grow out of with time and exspierence, some may not.

C. We already have a Code of Conduct. They can just read that if they are smart and want to fit in.

D. We can not force them to do what we want them too, they haft to do it by choice. All we can do is mute or ban them for bad conduct.

Like I said, nice try, but I don't think it will do anything but give Ompa more to do.

They will not read it anyway. THEY need the sence to get a better understanding.

What's kind of humorous is that the incessant reprisal of old topics on these boards has always created a sort of continuum of ideas. I've seen many a topic revived or reposted by a newbie, only to find that the conclusion was unresolved or had changed. I've also seen many new topics remind old users of ideas they dumped a long time ago, or stimulate ideas that are formed of an accumulation of newbie ideas.

Anyways, rather than be didactic and write 4 more paragraphs, I'll just leave the statement baseless and useless.

I personally think "greeting" the system here is about as good as it can get for a forum (sans JangaDan), though I believe someone should separately compile an archive of all the stupid, inane, and genious ideas from the past. Even a brief history of forum events might be handy. From an objective perspective, the NIC seems to be one big inside joke.

Ugh, I s'pose your all right. It's just frustrating coming to NH every couple days to see, "How do you mod a nitefinder" as the first topic in General Nerf, or something like that.

But then, I do get to relieve my day's stress by giving them a mental beating.
