...Arguably... the greatest guitarist whoever lived. But definitely one of the best.

Rock on Jimi.

Man, have you seen his Woodstock performance? Just hearing it doesn't even do it justice. There's a torrent of course.

I've seen his woodstock performance, and it's nothing compared to his Monterey performance. That's the one where he's on stage and he smashes his guitar on the ground then he continues to smash it through every amp. Then to top it all off he pours lighterfluid on it and burns that mo'fucka.
I'll shoot you with my gator you fuckface.

What does that have to do with his guitar playing ability?

I'll try to get a tape of the woodstock one online.

Maybe when he smashed it on the ground, it made cool noises? Or there was a certain skill with which he went about smashing everything on stage. Who knows?

Hendrix is da man!

A few years ago, when I was in High School, one of the students did a Hendrix-esque rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner for an awards ceremony, and it was fuckin sweet!

Maybe I might try finding that video of Hendrix at Woodstock.

I mentioned it for the great closeups of his playing, not for the theatrics. I'm much more impressed by a guy who can detune in the middle of a song than a guy who can burn his guitar. Hendrix happens to have both skills, but most of us have the latter.

Well yes for that woodstock was probably better. But on that day, the 3rd day of woodstock after all the hippies were sobered up it was raining. Raining so bad that no one wanted to be there. This made Jimi not really want to go onstage if his fans weren't happy. So he didn't try as hard to play like he did at the berkley or monterey or the isle of wight. Yes his lightning fast hammer ons for voodo chile were insanely awesome and the star spangled banner was great, but that concert just didn't capture Jimi as good as he could have been. Or at least thats what I think. He makes wierd faces when he's playing in woodstock too, that sort of annoyed me ;) oh, and theres a part when he's playing and they show a close-up of his face and he looks just like Willis from Diff'rent Strokes.

Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner ruled! One of the first rock/guitar solos I had ever heard. That guy rules!(To bad he died of drug problems <_< ) I'm glad others remember him. ^_^

He didn't die of drug problems. His girlfriend came home to him on the floor covered in tuna sandwich puke. She didn't want to call 911 because she didn't want a scandal around him. She waited a half hour then she finaly called. The ambulance came and strapped him to the stretcher thing sitting up (which is the worst thing to do when someone is passed out and vommiting) he swallowed a shit load of puke and it went into his adams apple or somthing and he just suffocated. So it really wasn't his fault. Well yea maybe it is. But hey who cares if he liked to shoot acid into his forehead, he still made great music.

Not that I'm looking to get into a debate here or anything, but...

Lots of people beat Hendrix. Lots. He was very creative and innovated the craft, but he was not the most skilled player to ever walk the planet.

When it comes to music raw skill is very low on my list of things to rate an artist by. It doesnt matter if you can paint a picture that looks exactly like a photograph, because anyone can use a camera. Its what you bring to the peice yourself that truly matters.

Yeah but he took a sleeping pill and puked in his sleep and drowned in it. To bad.

Yup but i don't care if he had problems with drugs, he could play a mean guitar and got me into it. :(
