Copper, PVC, CPVC, conduit, and pretty much anything else you can find at a typical home improvement store each come in basically one size that's useful to nerf. Therefore it's hit or miss whether your FBR will fit in any of those. Further, if your FBR is very close to .5" - which is the nominal size described as a micro stefan, none of the above work well. Most copper available is either slightly larger or smaller than .5" ID.
K&S brand brass is machined to very close tolerances and is available in 1/32" increments. Regardless of the size of your FBR, you can buy brass that is within 1/64" of it. Further, current mods for the more powerful spring guns dictate 'nesting' your barrel to get a tight fit at the base, then a somewhat looser fit for the rest of the barrel. Brass works great for this because it has 1/64" wall thickness and therefore nests perfectly within the next size up.
