I've heard in the older guns you can temper the metal used in the spring in an oven, and that this helps more than stretching the spring.

It is a generic spring gun. The green piece is PVC or something that like that with a thick wall and a diameter the same as the spring. This piece makes the spring compress tighter which will help shoot darts farther ( I've never tried it).

With spring stretching, the cons outweigh the pros. A lot. First of all, even if you do get better ranges after stretching, it doesn't last, and afterward, your spring isn't as strong as it was before you stretched it. The best thing to do is either band it, replace the spring, or both.
