They haven't announced a fee for it yet.

If you don't have any intent to post about Nerf, this is probably the wrong forum for you.

No fee as of yet, but it shouldnt be more than $15 a month. This is a very fair fee if you take into consideration what the game is. It will constantly change with new feature being added regularly. It's probably the best MMORPG of its type. Did you not realise their was going to be a monthly fee? All MMORPGs are pay to play.

I've played in first stress test and I also played the second one for a few days on my friends account ( second stress test is currently going on ). Open beta sign ups will probably be next week.

The release date is set for November 23rd, and I will be going to buy it as soon as BestBuy opens.

If anyone plans on getting the game and playing on the alliance side, I am cofounding a guild with some of my friends if you want in. Just PM me.

I havnet played it yet, but I may well get into it. I was hard-core strung out on EQ back in the day, and am looking forward to the choices in terms of MMOs that are coming out. (Personally Im currently rocking it on PlanetSide). WoW looks to be better than EQ2 in terms of gameplay, so Im definitely doin the open beta thing.

Yes, all mainstream MMOs are pay-to-play. They have to be to support the bandwidth and server maintentance for such a game with so many players. You will be able to find some free small ones most likely, but the experience is very different.

A couple of my friends have played World of Warcraft and they said that it is a really bad game. They are waiting for EQII to come out.

They also said that a really awesome game is Dawn of War. I bought it but I haven't installed it yet.

Well that explains that then.

WOW looks pretty decent, and to be honest, if it wasn't PTP, I might actually be interested.

But I have to disagree that all MMORPGs are PTP. Who's heard of Guild Wars? Apparently there won't be any online fee because once a person goes on a quest the game is hosted from the party leader's computer. The towns are just basic main channels and will probably be hosted with the funding from sales alone.

And that, kids, is how you make an MMORPG.

I really enjoy playing MMORPGs and all, but WOW just looks so... I dunno... cartoony? I just can't get past the graphics on that game. I generally don't judge games based on things like graphics, but the screen shots just look sooo bad for that game it completely kills any interest I had in ever playing that game. It's just... silly looking. I'll continue playing FFXI until I see how EQ2 is, but that doesn't seem terribly promising from what i've heard.

Dawn of War is a killer game. Why havent you installed it yet?!

Ok, Guild Wars is a good example. Fun game too. But its not the same type of MMO as EQ2 or WoW. Its more like they took Diablo multiplay and made the chatrooms 3d.

WoW is NOT bad, youre friends must be stupid, seriously. EQII and WoW are two totally different things though.

FFXI is horrable. I use to play it but quit because of the lame ass economy and cookie cutter molds you had to take. I also hated the total gear dependence on characters. Most of the good gear you HAD to have cost soooo much it would take me months of farming just to afford one peace. All the game was mindless leveling and doing something to get money. The quests and missions were lame and you didn't get squat for doing them. Not to mention you could spend 1,000s of gil just to get a tradeskill to level up .2 of a point if at all....

The "cartoon" look to WoW is part of the game. Have you looked at WCIII? It's the same, Blizzard is just trying to be different. I was also against the game for that very same reason untill I played it for an hour. You totally forget about the cartoonish look witch really isn't even that bad.

Don't judge a game untill you have personally played it.

Don't judge a game untill you have personally played it.

When I first saw it I also didnt like it. But Ive withdrawn my oppinion until I get into a beta or stress test. The problem is there is no demo, no free 7 day trial available, (at least not right now) so things like the graphics are all folks like me and Ash have to go on.

I do wish the texture resoluitons were higher. You can have goofy stylized polygons and still have quality texture work for good results. Some of the terrain and objects just dont look that good from what I've seen (again, Im talking in terms of textures). Some of it looks great, but its not consistent.

Hey man, I didn't say it was a bad game, I just said I was totally put off by the graphics.

FFXI has its downsides, but so does every MMORPG out there. I played EQ for a long time, and I played SB for quite a while as well. They both had thier downsides and over time, the economy always dies in those games due to outside influences (character and in game money selling, etc.). I only compared EQII and WOW because they are in the genre, wasn't trying to call them the same type of game. EQII sounds a bit more like FFXI in terms of character and class types, although it is a bit more flexible. Unfortunately, most MMORPGs come down to "Mindless leveling" and "doing something to get money" after a while. Granted, once you accomplish a high enough level and have enough money, you can go back to big quests and accomplishments, but they all require it to some degree. Shadowbane didn't because Equipment meant very little in that game, and it had only so much use to it before it would break (much like EQII). EQ was very dependent on equipment and so was AC to a point.

You couldn't have played FFXI very long if you really think there are "cookie cutter molds" that you are forced to follow. There are some archetypes that most seem to look amiably upon, but for the most part you can do just about anything with just about any race. Once you get higher in levels, you can balance out a character's stats with equipment, so it's fairly flexible. If you don't have the money you need to purchase equipment in the game, most of it is questable. Buying it is really just an option for those with extra cash... most of the higher priced stuff are all quest items. There are also several ways to make money fairly well in game that don't require hours of farming.

In any case, I'm not saying FFXI is all that great an MMORPG, but from what I've seen of WOW and EQII, I'm not convinced either of those games are much better. This was really my only point.

Just because people don't like certain games does not deem them "stupid", as you put it. There are different games for different people. Everyone has different tastes. Unless a game is PVP, most of the games come down to "pointless" leveling in the sense that there is no real point in ever getting to the lvl cap since you cannot directly compete with other players. The only games that i've ever played that really didn't have this dilemma were Shadowbane and Diablo, but of course, they are PVP. Most MMORPGers seem to dislike PVP, so until they come up with a way to compete that will appease the masses, the games will always come down to "mindless leveling" to some degree. I have friends who will be playing WOW, so I will take a look at them and judge for myself then, but for now I'm going off of what I see, and what I see is hardly amazing. A big pull to a game like that is to get your character looking the way you want it to look (to some degree), and I'm afriad in that game all the characters look like cartoony graphics I would expect in an MMORPG made a few years ago (kind of reminds me of Everquest graphics). Warcraft III had better graphics than WOW in my opinion, but hey, that's just me.

wcIII and WoW have the same graphics...

I played my ffxi Monk/Warrior to level 50, is that long enough for you? At any given level 90% of the time each class and character had on the same exact gear ( give or take some racial stuff and rings/earings ). I stopped playing because I spent a week without ever getting an invite to party. In WoW you can solo perfectly at any level at any time ( except raids, instance dungeons, and harder quests ). WoW has alot mroe features than ffxi or eq2 I feel. I don't remember reading anything about eq2 haveing raid parties ( your team actually goes and raids a town full of NPC and PCs ) or instance dungeons ( dungeons that apon entering loads a dungeon JUST for YOUR party full of elite mobs and awesome rewards ). WoW may look cartoonie at first, but after a few minutes of palying you get over it and notice it's not that cartoonie ( I felt the same way as you guys did don't forget ). It's alla bout gameplay folks.

EDIT: WoW.com is down, I smell beta comming within the hour !

EQ has dungeons that load just for your party, so i'm sure EQ2 has the same...

See, I think having parties is part of the pull for an MMORPG. Why would you want to solo at any level in an MMORPG? Why wouldn't you just go play a single player RPG?

Like I said, I will give WOW a chance, but it just doesn't seem appealing yet. I'll give it a fighting chance just like any other, though.

The graphics don't look the same to me... I dunno, it really looks like old EQ graphics.

No, I'm saying if you can't find a party, you can easily solo if you want. Something ffxi didn't have.

i played WoW on my friend's account for a few days, and i really liked it. he was part of this big week long beta stress test, and so i got to do a lot of cool shit while playing - like being part of a single battle consisting of about 200 people, all in an attempt to crash the server. its got a really fun beginning to it, so i'd give it a try if your into those games. i'll agree with ash on the fact that the game looks extremely cartoony, and i'm sorry to say that the screenshots don't lie, it actually is really cartoony.
