i was thinking of making a breech for my barrel then looked at bolt action then i thought of having like a hinge or somethingnear the gun end of the barrel where you could bend open then stick a peice of brass in with a spring behind it (sorta like a shell) then when you close it it will have a larger paice of pvc over the top so it is closed

il draw this up then post some pics here soon

please post what you think because i want to make it as good as i can( with your help)

sory i forgot to mention that you would shove a dart in the brass shell and inside the barrel is a brass barrel the same size as the shell so it doesnt pop out and same as behind it

Well it sounds good, but you need to have some sort of lock on the top/side/whatever to keep the barrel from flying all over the place when you're running. I think I may have to do this as well, although I'd probably have two barrels in an O/U manor with a selector switch. That way one barrel could be 9/16" brass with micro stefans and the other could be 1/2" PVC with those shotgun-ammo stefans. That would be neat.

I did it a while ago. The key is to use lots of hot glue and an o-ring.

I had always wondered about that.....

In an attempt to make this post infintesimally less useless... I actually misinterpretted the post as talking about a hinged breach. Like cutting out a dart shaped hole in a barrel, and covering the hole with a piece of barrel material that is hinged with some flexible material like cloth, or maybe an actual hinge. if you used some velcro or a snap or some other means of keeping it closed you could just flip it open, pop in a dart, and flip it closed. Possibly in less time than it takes to rear load a pvc barrel and jam it into a coupling (NJ style. All you outsiders just pretend I said "less time than it takes to blow/ramrod a mini down some brass")

Please realize you can edit posts and its there for a reason. Also, if you want pictures just do it on imageshack.

To upload pictures, go to Imageshack and click browse. Choose your picture, and click 'Host It'. Once you upload your picture, copy the contents of the first white box to your post. It's that easy. (Thank you Vintage)

Hmm..I think people have tried this before...But I haven't really thought of it for a long time. The pvc lock would have to be cut on the bottom to allow it to slide over the hinge. I like it. I assume the spring would have to be strong enough to spit out the shell when it was done. Go ahead and try to build it, it doesn't look to complicated. If I have time I'll try one myself.

Personally I think the spring would just make it more complicated. Instead of using a spring, why not use a small air tank? It wouldn't take up all the much more room, and would probably be more effective for the job.

As for sealing the barrel assembly, you could probably buy an O-ring slightly smaller than the PVC and maybe epoxy it on. I'm not sure how well hot glue would work, since the heat may warp the O-ring a bit.

And as for the barrel staying in place after loading it, why not have a small piece of string fixed permanently to the gun, and then have a screw about a 1/4 way down the barrel, and tie the string around it multiple times. I guess the most accurate comparison would be those envelopes that you close with string.

Just some suggestions. Remember, I just got back in to this, so I'm not sure.

Sorry for replying in an old topic, but this is how I would make a shotgun break action breech.

The clothespin would hold the metal loop so the barrel would stay sealed.

thats a good idea
but a fault in it
the peg wont be strong enough to hold a 15" pvc barrel with brass in it
and it wouldnt get the perfect seal

and a pin or something like that would take too long to remove and replace

i dont wont to be piccy or anything though

This was an old idea of mine that I had when I first read this topic.. But was too lazy to make a picture. It's alot like Vintages, in a vague sense.

Posted Image

Basically, the black thing is the hinge, and the grey piece ON the hinge is a SCH40 coupler. The coupler on the right side will connect to the airtank(s), and the coupler on the left will be sawed so it's only maybe 3/4 of an inch long. Therefore, an SCH40/80 barrel would still be able to slide around within the coupler. The other small piece around the barrel would be something to prevent it from falling out, even tape would work here. So basically, you pull the barrel out slightly, let it fall, load it, bend it back up, and seal the barrel against the coupler. Not SURE if it would work, but I think it should.

Pointed out by Air: Notorious, never, EVER do that again. The splitting of ideas was fine, but for christ's sake use periods. Capitalization would be nice too. And Piccy is Picky.

That's a good idea,
but a fault in it is that
the peg wouldn't be strong enough to hold a 15" pvc barrel with brass in it.
Also, it wouldn't get a perfect seal.

In addition to the aforementioned, the pin or something like it would take too long to remove and replace.

There's your new, quasi-grammatically correct post. Post more like the above.

I'm liking ompa's idea. How about (sorry for being slightly off topic) you make a shotty shell that goes with it?

Posted Image

Obviously out of proportion; but going for the spreadfire idea. I don't know why I drew the arrow there. Maybe to show where the shots go...but that doesn't seem quite right...
Sorry for the off-trackedness, but it came to me on the spur of the moment.
