Well, I went out and bought a Nite Finder like suggested, I am actually pretty happy with it.

Well, being that it's a spring, I pulled it apart, and found the spring, I stretched it some, and after stretching too far squeezed it back some.

Over all it seems to have less of a drop rate as I shoot down my hall, so it seems effective, I'm curious what else I may do to it.

If my digital cam was working I'd pop up some pictures to show, something to work on.

Didn't know what anyone thought and if there were any suggestions for further improvements on it, I leave it to all of you.

When i mod mine, they work great for the day, but not much later they are only so-so. Just try doing a simple barrel replacement. Bands help as well. There's a detailed mod for the NF in the modification section.

Read Cx's barrels and darts article in the Articles section. AFter doing all the math and such...I realized that mods like the Nitefinder waste a helluva lotta air with just stock barrel or even 4 inches of brass. I'd definately build a silencer for this gun not for the actual silencing, but to get more use out of the air.

Also..for the NiteFinder it's important to mod the air restrictor to your advantage. Don't just remove it. Work the airflow so that it has a small but reasonable passage.

I modified mine and it works great! I shot my brother with it and he started to cry.

Hey Crimson_Owl, did you replace that barrel yet? You'd be surprised what you can use for barrel material beside the usual SCH40 PVC, brass, or PETG. I experimented with flexible irrigation "funny pipe" (black, stiff but flexible tubing). Fits micro stefans snugly, but "pop" nicely out when fired. It takes some work to straighten out, but 50 feet out of a Nite Finder without stretching the spring makes for a pretty good, inexpensive first blaster.

I also have a NF with an old, tarnished piece of brass for a barrel, and it still shoots better than factory stock (though not as far as the black piped one). Change that barrel. Have fun!

On the topic of Nite Finders, I was wondering what the ideal barrel length would be on one, assuming im using 17/32 -> 9/16 telescoping brass. Stock, unstretched spring, and banded fairly heavily. Just curious.

I already searched parts of the forum for this but couldn't find anything to answer my question.

The mod write-up suggests 4. If I could redo it I'd do a little bit more. I'd use 17/32 or CPVC instead of 9/16, which is what I used (it fit quite well). After doing the whole report on plunger tube vs. amount of force needed to propel dart and such...I realized my NF isn't very efficient (though it does get higher end ranges on this forum....)

I don't think your using a NF as your primary, so 4-5 inches should be sufficient.

Your telescoping? Is your gun going to be break barrel? I'm assuming that you load from the front...therefore the telescoping isn't really....I dunno.

It's going to be break barrel. My plan is to use 4 of them (that's right, four) as primaries. It's not going to be loaded from the front. I did that with my first NF and it takes too long, and it's too hard to get the dart down the barrel without a ramrod. Even then, it usually screws up the darts before they get down.

I've also tried 17/32 with my darts, and it's tight, which is why I'm telescoping with it as opposed to...well the next smallest, I really can't remember what that is. The dart goes fits nicely in 9/16 which is why I'm using that for the barrel. My current one has CPVC, but the dart is a really tight fit, and as I said above, isn't very practical. Takes a good 30 seconds to reload.

So in conclusion I'll probably use 5 inches, and I'll be able to cut it down if need be.

While I'm at it I'll just ask, has anyone found any tricks to making guns, more specifically the NF, more accurate than normal?

I bought a nite finder too, I took out the stock laser, and hot glued in a laser pointer, it lines up perfect, and its sweet for scaring people in wars.

I actually just took out the light completely - makes it more holsterable. The advantage of this is that even if you don't intend to holster your gun, you now have some open space in the front where you can hot-glue in brass rings to be ammo holders.
