I actually haven't even begun this quest to make homemade clips but was curious if anyone else has tried making clips for the powerclip.

Many have been able to make powerclip clips. The only probloems being that the clips were either too heavy, requiring all kinds of rejiggering of the powerclip mechanism, or they were just to expensive to be mass produced

Actually, not many people have done it, because its a bitch to make. Awhile ago ATB said he made one out of resin or something, ask him.

Eh, I tried to make one out of resin too. It's too expensive to be practical. I made a mold and that's it. I abandoned it because it was going to be too expensive to buy the resin and resin hardener. It seemed like it would work. Its just an issue of how practical it is.

Here's a skit on balsa wood clips...

Act 1: testing the balsa wood clip

Person 1: Look, I made a PC clip out of balsa wood!

Person 2: Lets try it out!

BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!!
BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! BAM!!! ---Clip come out of top and flys away in a million peices--

Person 1: ???

Person 2 whispers to Person 3: What a loser.

Weasel, it's probably not strong enough is what he's trying to say. And it'd just be too much work anyways. A mold and resin is easier, albeit more expensive. It's just not worth it, especially with rumors of a powerclip re-release.

Even with a powerclip re-release you're still gonna have to cough up $25 a gun.

naw.. not possible for powerclip to be $25.. probably $15.. but the only problem is that you will have to buy the gun including the clip, because they wont have an individual sell for the clips

I’m working on a clip, but I need PETG. It was way too ironic, because just when I needed the stuff, iron rhino ran out. I finally got good plexiglass cheap, and finished a schematic. It would have increased range as well. If anyone can get me around 3.5ft of PETG please pm me. It could help me BIG TIME.

Just for the hell of it as a story, cheap plexiglass = free. My school is remodeling. And one thing is they're replacing all plexiglass covered boards they post stuff with normal bulletin boards. They're throwing out al the plexiglass. I got so pissed because even after I asked them to save it I only rescued one out of six pieces because the rest got broken in the dumpster. It was worth it though because the dimensions were 6'7" x 3'10" awesome for free, if I can make clips, it'll be awesome. There are two more pieces left to liberate. I also got around 2500' of thrown out 5E cat-5 cable. Waste not want not, I say.

But really, PM me about the PETG.

I have an overabundance of brass now so I could spare 4 feet of petg if you still want it.

Holy shite. That's insane. Did you use balsa wood? That's the only type of wood I can think of that would be light enough to function as a pc clip. Also good choice with the PETG, it looks sexy. And I'm also curious how ranges to compare to those of a regular clip.

Sweet job on the design, it looks like it took a good amount of time.

I am quite impressed. I would imagine that your only problem would be weight. The wood is most likely heavier than molded plastic, and that probably drops the rate of fire.

Frank8715, you certainly have pumped out some innovations since your first post here. It's good to have you as a member.

Thanks man. Yeah, it took a while to make. It's not balsa wood. I'm not really sure what its called. Some artificial particle board type thing found at Home Depot. It has a super smooth finish on one side of it, so I used that side for the exterior of the case.

Can't do ranges yet because I need to make some more stefans. I'll post some up soon.

Particleboard? It looks like the 1x1 (?) at each end would still be a bit heavy, what are they made out of?

Thanks, Shinding. That's high praise coming from you. The clip does suffer from weight, and that's why I said it works ok.

MysticNinja, the stuff is at homedepot, sold in 4X8' pieces. It's about 1/8" thick. I don't know what it's called. I orginally used it for the back of some book shelves. There are two blocks of normal wood in the clip, as you can see in the first picture.
