Hardboard, or something like that. It comes in sizes from 1/8" to 1/2" in thickness. It's the same stuff as pegboard, but without the holes. Usually used for spacing boards during assembly and backs for moveable shelf units.

What I recommend to save weight is to get out your half-inch (or larger) drill bit and make those end blocks (short sections of 2x4*, maybe thrown threw a thickness planer?) full of holes.

*The end grain on the lower block came from the part of the tree which dimensional lumber is cut. Also it is full of (small) knots.

Idont usually complement others on nerf guns, but Frank, you have my respect. ::Salutes::

What did you use to glue/bond the wood together?

Wow, that's amazing man. Excellent job. I was going to try and make one out of sheet plastic which i can get cheap at a store near my house but I doubt it will work.

Looks nice. Has anybody tried to youse sheets of petg. They sell sheets of it and it looks like it could be pretty bendable with heat applied.

Wood glue would be my guess.

you can also buy sheets of lightweight ABS plastic for fairly cheap... it's also very easy to cut (you just score [sp?] and break) and with a heatgun you can simply bend it in any shape you need (though that dosen't seem applicable in this situation).

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Yeah, hardboard rings a bell, GeneralPrimevil. That might be what it's called. I've trimmed it up a bit, sort of like you suggested. Now it's only a fraction of an ounce heavier than the stock clip.

THIRST, It's glued together with good ol' Elmer's glue, and the PETG barrels are attached in the back with epoxy, for an airtight seal.

Bishop and Ash, that plastic sheet idea seems like a better way to go. I'm sure it would be lighter which would help. Anyone one know where you can get this stuff? I think I recall hearing of some clear (maybe PETG) plastic sheet at sometime or another, and that would be neato having a clear clip with clear barrels.

oh and Langely... don't think anyone still thinks that the PC will be rereleased, at least this year.

It's medium density fiberboard (MDF) most likely.

Spoon and I played around with the idea of banding the clip to offset the extra weight during our marathon PC hacking party. Our extra weight was due to brass inserts in a stock clip, but it should be more or less the same thing.

Nice work!

That's about 5 times more expensive though. Maybe I'll try ebay.

That sounds like my kind of party! What do you mean by banding the clip? Counteracting gravity?

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Cut a long band into a single strip and attach either end to the top of the gun along the sides of the clip. It forms a sling that the clip falls into - and stretches. Case modding required for this trick...

The other possibility is to lower the floor of the clip well and use a magazine spring of some kind. Or just make your clip shorter by removing some of the dead space on the bottom. Whatever it takes to make room for a fully compressed light-duty spring.

i dont have a pc and i doubt i will ever but just thinking about the clip. an easier way to make one could be to get a thick slab of light weight wood, dont say there is no such thing because i have some, and drill hols in it large enough to hold your barrel material (say cpvc) and glue the short lengths of cpvc inside the drilled out holes then work the outside so that it fits in the pc.

You’re a genius, no way anyone else could have thought of that.

I'll tell you a few reasons why that didn't work out so good for me:

1. too heavy
2. couldn't stop the wood from spliting because of how big the of holes I had to drill
3. bloody fingers from an occasional wild spinning clip.
4. didn't trust my abilities to drill straight down for all ten barrels

With softer wood though I'm sure it could be done.

You can get sheets of ABS plastic from Metra in 12x12 (I think). I'm sure there is a vast array of other better companies to get it from, however.

Hey, what are the dimeisions of a PC clip? I was browsing this topic and then my mothyer called me down to open a curtain rod container. I opened it and realized that it was about the same size as a PC Clip, and even if it was not, you could still use it as the frame and add on to it. It is made of thin plastic, and the dimensions are as followed:
Approx. Overall box lengh: around 4.2 ft
Width 1: 4.75 in.
Width 2: 2 in.
Ill give some to the supreme admiral and see if he can make a clip out of it.
You could allways cut it up and use pieces of it.....

Hope this might help!

EDIT: BTW, the curtian rod thing is called:
HomeTrends
Double Bracket Rod Set
Its from WalMart

I doubt you could be that precise with clay.

I remember somebody on either this site or NHQ saying they had a plastic molder thingy machine (I don't really remember what it was called, but it made stuff out of plastic). They wanted to make their own guns out of plastic and sell them in place of Nerf. Obviously they weren't too faithful about Nerf staying around for long. Anyway, would this type of machine work in making a clip for a PC?

Euphemism, thanks for the info. I read the page over and the experiment seems a little gross, but it may be useful to some people hoping to build a small scale plastic or make a repair to a gun.

If you could do me a favor and clean up the quality of your posts, that would be great. Some capitalization and punctuation are all you need. Don't worry about the thread being old; at the very least you did your best to help contribute to the discussion, and that's all we ask (in addition to the Code of Conduct).

Can't do ranges yet because I need to make some more stefans. I'll post some up soon.

Gun held 5' off ground, with good fitting stefans. All shots averaged and rounded to nearest foot.

Flat = 39'

Angled = 71'

Stock clip from same gun...

Flat = 45'

Angled = 75'

Not quite sure why the PETG barrels came up slightly short.
