I was curious if anyone stumbled upon any designs for a fully auto mehcanism for a nerf gun that could be made with normal materials that could be found in a hardware store. I've been experimenting a bit but I can't seem to get the timing right on rotation and get very much power.

Don't stop trying, but a reliable auto is likely impossible from household materiales. I now from experience.

I've been trying it myself, and I know it is almost impossible. The timing needs to be so insanely precise, but I still think its possible.

You could have very slow, contricted release, while having the darts come in at an angle via tube clip. Might work, if you get the right angle.

EDIT: This might work? it would need some work...but you get the idea.

Thanks thirst, your design is extremely simple and easy to follow. That brings an interesting idea to the table, a simple tube clip like the ones used in paintball. Though darts are not spherical, if the fit were tight enough I could see where the darts would fall into place. That design could work for a semi auto also.

Yeah, i have one made and it works beautiflly. If the air is let out slow enough, this could make for an effective auto gun. Actually, Osiris(Akira to those at DCNO2) is working on a fully auto homemade using my clip right now. He mde one version, but is in the process of making a better one, that isnt half assed. From what I've heard, hes using some fancy regulator, and a huge tank. hes expecting 80 shots, and this is from a gun smaller than an mshot. We'll have to wait and see. Until then, good luck.

SWeet thirst! I know 1 of Lonnie Johnson's deisgn's used an actuator to control firing. 80 shots? crazy

Im working on it now its turning out pretty good I hammered in a small piece of 1/2" pvc into a 1/2" cpvc pipe which is the barrel. Then i used files and the dremel to enlarge the 1/2" cpvc pipe hole and the 1/2" PVC pipe hole. Im probably gona go shopping for the other pieces. Does anyone know if there is such thing as a 1/2" pvc T connector but with a 45 degree angel? I think there is such thing as that that would be the thing I need then I would dremel it a bit and try to make it as easy as possible for the dart to make it down to the barrel. Yeah I am making a big tank ( made of 3" PVC rated 260 psi) I measured its cubic inches and made a proportion based on paintball to find out how many shots I could get. I know that in PB 3000psi=10 shots per cubic inch of the tank. My tank is rated 240psi max and so I did a few proportions and calculations to get 42 shots non regulated shots at 240 psi I think with a regulator I could regulate pressure down from 240 psi to 120psi and maybe get double the shots to a total of 84 decent shots. If its all good with the clip system of thirst I Might have a full auto gun that does not require any pumping. The tank uses this great shreader valve with a 1/4" thread that I found at acehardware.com. When my gun is complete ill ask Thirst if he can post pics for me I dont have a digital cam and I dont know how to do it.

Use brass as the barrel for the clip, it works better. The coupler your talking about is called a "y" coupler.

Woah, okay, cool. Proves how stupid I am, as I was going into electronically actuated solenoid timers and fancy shiz like that. I must try this for myself.

You can find some pressure rated 1/2" wyes at plumbingsupply.com.

Here is a link directly to the wyes.

*cough*boltsniper'sdoneit*cough*

his was pressure limited to be only semiauto (via the trigger valve), but all it would take to make his design full-auto is an open valve between air supply and bolt mechanism.
note that it would need to be built of brass or similar. his PVC prototype exploded, not cos of air pressure, but rather the stress of the bolt slamming back and forth.
