CS or DoD. It's kind've a big debate thing. Which do you like better?

Well I have to say that I enjoy both games, but they really aren't comparable. CS represents a faster paced modern team based shooter in which you simply accept the fact that you're either a Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist who is in a random warehouse and there are people who will shoot you if you don't shoot them. It's an immediate gratification and release. DoD on the other hand, is a historical based WWII simulator in which you're trying to recreate the feel of being either a Nazi or Allied Troop on Omaha Beach or any other number or real locations. Your have a wider variety of goals and you're playing as a team for points, not just to see who can kill each other first, it's something you play more for atmosphere than for the sheer joy of killing.

From what I hear though BF1942 is pretty much gonna render DoD obsolete. I'm not knockin DoD, I've played it and liked it, but it's never really seemed to obtain that polished feel that really successful FPS's need now. It's not like Q2 or Tribes days where people will overlook choppy animations or problems with crouching or crawling.

Firearms just sucks. I like to play it sometimes, it's different, but it sucks. It's basically UT with poorly balanced modern weapons. The only thing that makes it fun is if you and your friends just go crazy with grenades and ninja-knifing in water. I mean you know the game has issues when that NATO-Rifle is the best thing goin.

And every game has hackers, if you're finding that they're ruining your game experience that start playing on a better server where the admins actually give 2-shits and will ban them. I usually recommend the phhx.net servers that are run by respectable clans.

On a side note, this discussion is moot, Shadowbane is better. Oh how I lust to play it each night......

Well, since the update to 2.6, I'd have to agree. The update killed something cool, deep inside... It's just crap now.

Yea, I remember the M16A2. Full automatic. Best gun on the game, yet they take it away. Zero, what server do you play on in DoD, and whats your name? My name is General Fatnuts (my brother did it and I don't feel like changing it. I don't really have a server I go on alot). I just play.

I go by, get this: Zero Talent. I don't play a lot anymore, though.. Not really worth my time anymore, so don't expect to see me... Ever, really.

I'm going to have to agree with you on your opinions on DoD, and FA. BF1942 is an amazing game, download the demo if you want to playtest it, it's almost too much fun at LAN parties...

As to the poll, DoD. I played CS during the earlier parts of my life (like back when the colt had a scope) and enjoyed it then, but when I came back to it, I saw everything was different, and I .. well, hated it. I've only played DoD a bit, but I loved what I played. MGs are funn..

Actually Famine BF1942 and DoD feel and play totally differently. BF1942 is basically WW2 Tribes with no jetpacks and better vehicles. It also chews up lesser systems and craps them out (ie, mine). DoD is much more "in your face" and fast paced, but also doesn't have nearly as much depth or range of gameplay as BF1942.

Firearms was cool before version 2.0. I used to play it a lot and loved it, but when they took the awesome M-60 machine gun sound and replaced it with this pathetic limp-dicked clicking sound....well, that was it for me. DoD has the most satisfying machine guns EVER as far as I'm concerned. Nothing beats being perched in the top of a building in the Avalanche map with your .30 Cal just 0wning that courtyard flag.
