 I bought a splitfire today. It will only shoot 20-25ft. Is it defective? Should i return it? Please help ASAP,so i can bring it back sooner if need be. Thanks By the way, it is unmodded and NIB.

No thats normal for an unmodded Splitfire, but if you want to mod it there's a good brass mod for it on this site. You can buy brass at hobby shops for the mod.

Not defective.

20-25' is pretty good by unmodded nerf standards.

Do the mod on this site and you'll see a dramatic change.

Ok. Great Thanks. How do i get the new barrel to stay on? I`ve tried to mod my NF`s and i cannot get the barrels to glue on. I`m sure i`m doing it wrong. I want to do it right for the SF though.

what kind of glue are you using? and are you following cxwq's mod carefully?

if it doesn't stay, i suggest you just glop a whole bunch of hot glue in the gun to hold the barrels in place, thats what I did

There is a lot of power on the NF spring, so when you attach a new barrel you need a strong bonding agent to keep the new barrel from being pushed off. I recomend you use an epoxy. Give it a day to dry before you reasseble your blaster.

I tall depends on the fit of the darts you are using. I have a brass mod like cx's and I get like 80 feet. Brass is like 2.50 a foot, the stuff is better quality at the model stores than at other places. If copper fits you darts go for it. That might be good since i I remember correctly copper is stronger than brass but copper corodes more quickly. I may be wrong. http://nerfonline.co...to/mod401.shtml
This is a good article, you may want to read that.

I absolutely hate copper, I think brass is much better then it. I would spend the extra money to get the brass.

The vast majority of plumbing places don't carry brass. K&S brass tubing shouldn't set you back more than about $2.20 a foot - which is enough to mod a SF.

Thanks for your help everyone. Maybe the local plumbing supply store is not the way to go. Where can i get k and s brass? Can i order it online? Also what are the exact measurments so that i can achieve the perfect fit and a tight seal? By measurments I mean the best ones to shoot stock micro sonics and suction cup darts.

BZZZZZT!

He said stock darts...

You don't want brass, my friend - you want 1/2" PVC for stock suction micros.

Of course the best bet would be to make your own darts and use brass...

PVC works well for 5/8 Stefans and stock micros.
Brass works for 1/2 stefans.
Bras tends to work better because 1/2 Stefans get better ranges than 5/8 Stefans, so Brass works better there, and comes in 1/16th sizes, so its easy to get a size that fits your darts.

PVC has a 5/8 Inner diameter, outer Diamter, Im not sure.

Sorry for all the questions everyone. My dilema is this. i need to know how much more effective brass and stephans will be as opposed to PVC and stock mircos. i`m trying to decide whether or not it is worth the trouble of ordering brass and actually making stephans instead of going to the store right now and getting PVC and shooting stock darts. how much of a range and accuracy difference is there between the brass option and the PVC option. also, do i remove the dart posts/ air restictors in the spiltfire? i`ve only worked on spring guns, not air powered guns so i dont know if it is still correct to remove them. i dont want to damage anything.

thanks alot

I get my brass at a place called Do it Best. It is basically truevalue. They have K&S there.

Well, I've modded a Titan to shoot stock micros and Stefans (Start spelling stefan this way), and stefans get a significant range boost... about 55 feet. I used identical length barrels. However, stock micro's will work better if you cut the length to 2.25 inches, remove the suction, add a weight, and glue the suction back on, and you should be getting ranges better than Stefans. In my experience, the stocks have a better seal in PVC that Stefans in brass. Just me, though. Stefans will save you lots of trouble.

Range improves by a ton, accuracy by a ton, you get more ammo, for cheaper. It is much better. Its the only way to play. It isnt worth the trouble of ordering brass though, I suggest getting cpvc from yuor local hardware store if it fits your darts, or coper if it fits your darts. If your going to order brass, you might as ell get petg. You do remove air restrcitors and posts from air guns, make theairflow as good as possible. On the SF, be careful taking out the air restrctors, dont get anything in those valves, and if you do spray some wd40 down there, works.

PVC with stefans usually won't do weel because of the really loose seal... I think. 16 inches of brass at 9/16" with 1 inch of 17/32" gets averages of 185-205 feet. Depends on how well you mod.

Seeing as if you can use only 12 inches of brass as you are ordering it, I think you should try a little more 17/32" brass.

Another downside to PVC and Stefans it that the stefan could slide through the back of the barrel, and lodge itself in the interior of the gun, behind the air restrictor.

what range would i achieve with a 6 inch piece of PVC on each barrel, shooting weight and length modded stock darts?

what range would i get with 6 inch brass and stefans?
once i change to PVC can i change to brass if i want to?

also how do i get PVC that fits? all the PVC i`ve looked at has 1/2in inner diameter but then the outside is too thick to fit.

You haven't read THIRST's post about barrel and dart sizes at all. Go back and read that, then read my MOD 401 article. Half of those combinations don't work.
