I went to shoot my rf20 the other day and i came across some problems. Whenever i pump it, the air doesn't seem to hold in whatever its supposed to. Then when i go to shoot I get only 2 or 3 shots off because of it. If anyone has any techniques to find this leak before I try and end up breaking something I would appreciate it.

I swear I've looked but nothing I can find helps me out with this problem. I'm not trying to modify it or anything...i just need help fixing it.

Vblast, if you're going to ask a question on NH, you can be pretty sure that what's offered will work, as almost all of the members here know what they're talking about. And after TWO members say it, you can be pretty much sure it works. Now if you're on NHQ... Heh I'm just kidding NHQ guys. But I HAVE had the occasional conflict in opinion.

You need a nice break from here... just for a little while. However, it wouldn't hurt for you to extend your take of absence.

As Ompa said, in different words; open your eyes. People here won't joke about that kind of stuff, we like helping people with sharp, concise, to the point posts. If you can't handle that, go figure it out yourself.

You pump up the gun under water and look at where the bubbles that will appear are coming from. Once you have the area located, drain the water, and Plumber's Goop the hole/crack.

I can vouch for the water pumping too.
It's not going to get water in your gun( mabye very minimal but it won't affect your gun performance-wise)but the way it works is if you hold the gun's internal tubing/air chamber underwater, you pump and air comes out of the leaking part in the form of bubbles, allowing you to pinpoint where exactly the leak is.

Thank you, i guess. I wasn't trying to start a fight or anything but its kinda hard to believe somebody when they tell you to pump your gun underwater because i thought it would fill up. For all i know the person just wants a good laugh even if they are experienced.

Keep the end of the pump tube above water, so only air is pumped into the gun. Keep the rest of the gun under water to see where the bubbles rise.

And try not to shoot it underwater, as you MIGHT get water inside the firing assembly, which might be annoying. Although for places I'd look for leaks:

-Make sure the bladder clamps are on tight
-Make sure all the hose connections are nice and tight
-Seems some of the trigger valves on some guns leak, so watch for that too.
-Popped tubing, since THIRST had a serious problem with that; although it was only with the bike tubing, check anyways.
-Did you plug the release valve? If you did, it's *possible* that the release valve is stuck/glued on open and the air is leaking out through there. It's unlikely, but possible. I did it on a friend's AT2k since he had no hot glue. I promptly got him a hot glue gun.

What if there are no visible leaks when i pump underwater, however, when i pump it out of the water it seems to hold the air. Then when i go to shoot I only get off 4 or 5 weak shots. Any ideas?

Dude, just try it already. If there are no leaks when you pump it underwater, and you still get bad range and number of shots, burn the gun. It means it just isn't working.

My best bet though is that there is a leak.

By the way, have you taken the gun apart before? If you forgot to put the little black tube that seals the turret to the piston, that would definitely explain the bad range.

Yes i have taken it apart. What i said was that i pumped it under water and i saw no leaks. Then when its above the air pumps in but it doesn't shoot out.

Does the turret rotate through all 20 shots or is it 5 shots but the turrett rotates through everything?And how many times do you pump it?

I pumped it the normal amount of times that i always have (approx. 20-30). Then it only fires 4 to 5 shots. And the turret only spins that many times, it doesn't spin all 20. Sometimes the gun doesn't even generate enough power to spin the turret but you still hear popping noises as if it were firing.

Hm... Look at the piston mechinism- if one of the o-rings in there is warped at all, it would account for the bad range. Also, look STRAIGHT into the end of the piston. That little black rubber ring should be centered. If it's not, it would cause the problem you're talking about. If you have problems, let me know and I'll try to get pictures up tomorrow or monday.

Yea the pistons seem to be in good shape. Also, one of those white cylinders at the bottom was open a little and when i first opened it i thought that was the problem. I epoxied that closed and now i'm stuck with what i explained. I think the problem might be somewhere in between the air chamber and the piston, though, because i'm getting good pumps just not good firing.
