I'm not sure if this topic has already been covered in a longer post, but I wanted to ask a question about skirt seals and start a post about seals for homemades in general. My question is: Is this (https://www.mcmaster.com/9562K47) the seal used for plunger heads in 1 1/4 inch pvc? I tried looking for the answer, but I couldn't be sure. Also, are there any tutorials on making skirt seals? Thanks for the help. (To be clear, this is fitting inside 1 1/4 inch pvc)

Edit: After thinking for a few minutes and searching around some more, I started wondering if this (https://www.mcmaster.com/9562K46) was the thing that I was looking for. The ID and OD seem right, but some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to look into this one, I never really used skirt seals and prefer an oring (-215 or -216; can't recall ATM but it's on at least one of my writeups). After just a couple minutes searching, I haven't found a writeup with the seal in it, but I do know that the ID of 1-1/4 Sch 40 PVC is usually 1.315" so both of those look way to big to me.

Could anyone send the part number of the skirt seal that fits into 1 1/4 in pvc? I know it's pretty widely used the hobby.

From the McMaster-Carr Parts List

The OP came to the right conclusion: you're looking for 9562k46. It will seem too big when you first insert it into the plunger tube - this has an OD of 1.609", while the nominal ID of 1-1/4" PVC is 1.380". But they do compress down into that diameter, and with silicone grease they slide freely through 1-1/4" PVC with almost no friction.

Skirt seals are by far the best dynamic seal that you can use in this application. My Pacbow from 2010 still uses the same skirt seal it was built with. It's seen heavy use at dozens of nerf wars, and only sporadic maintenance over the intervening eight years, yet retains it's low-friction 100% seal. They are dramatically more durable and effective than o-rings or washers.
