Yesterday i finally got my N-strike, last one in my local toys R us :D. but then when i was pumping up the hornet, it made this really loud leaky sound, like pisssssss, so i was like OH Crap! So then i opened it up and found out it was leaking from the middle barrel, the one on the right when you are shooting someone. On the barrel the manufactures marked a what seems like a 4. i also found out that my lower barrels, also one on the right, has this wet stuff in the pipes connecting to the airtank. My hornet leaks so much that even when i shoot it right away the darts only go 2 feet. I know i didnt blast the tank, because i didnt plug up the pump yet. What the heck should i do? :P :nugget:

Return it and wait. It'll be easier than trying to fix it. Just, yeah, return it and wait.

i dont think i can return it because:
1: i "modded" my scout by drilling a hole so all the x pegs and air restrictor crap is out
2: i made one of the holes that fit the screw bigger so i can get it out.

i think im just ganna get Drano to help me fix it, because i really dont know what to do.

CK please ask me before you post anything on here.
although the problem is valid enough to notify everyone of it, you do a crappy job of describing it.

... IT WAS FINE WHEN I SAW IT YESTERDAY!!! WHAT DID YOU DO ?!!

Gah I'm pissed as hell as well. My 5th barrel isn't firing all the air- I suspect there's a leak in the airtank/hose... It looks like I'm going to finally need to get some plumber's goop. Damnit, such a good gun... But still, I might end up using my AT3k as my primary it seems- It's just more accurate.

I think you should return it. I once bought two tech targets, and modded them both, but i didnt reinforce the plunger cap with that really strong spring and both of their caps broke off. I returned them and the people didnt even ask me what was wrong with it. But this was wal-mart so good luck at TRU.

<_< Haha, just return it man. I've heard a lotta complains about the Hornet not functioning 100% like it's suppose to. Chances are they won't even notice anything. If they don't let you return it~ just wait a few hours then go back and try again.

I have a similar problem with my 6th barell. It wont fire the air at all. Then, about 3 trigger pulls later, the dart unexpectedly shoots out. Inbetween the 3rd and 4th barell, there is a trigger pull where nothing happens, but I can definitely hear air being shot out of one of the empty barells. I think that my hornet has enough air for seven shots but it has a hard time distributing it, like maybe I'm not pulling the trigger far enough in. That's another thing...the trigger pull is VERY long. This is when I haven't plugged the pump.

You do realise that ompa, who's gotten a leak, has has his Hornet for a while now and it worked fine when he got it.He wouldn't know if his hornet had a leak or not.

Actually, when I got it, the 5th barrel fired kind of funny- sometimes it would fire sometimes it wouldn't. I figured it was just something with the air restrictor being stuck, so that when I was done it would be fine. But the problem has kind of stayed, so I'm guessing it's a hose leak.

The form of valve used in the Hornet (and the Blastfire, Triple-strike, and Secret Strike Pocket Blaster) seems really prone to errors... Sum up all the problems with the aforementioned guns, and you have the many failure modes of this valve (if the link doesn't work properly, my apologies; I can't view my site from Canada anymore. Blasted Web1000). Really exact builds required. My prototype facsimiles experience the same problems. Very annoying.

My suggestion? Oil, pressurize, pray. Sorry to hear another casualty of chance; best of luck with the Hornets.

Welcome to the forum Joselyn. Good sig reference.

Do you just mean spray oil directly into the chamber, pressurize, and pray? And what kind of oil?

I'm not sure... Some kids just spray degreasing WD-40 down in the valves and hope that it clears the sealing surfaces and facilitates the seal, though I'd suggest something heavier, like gun oil or canola oil (something that won't kill Polypropylene or most other thermoplastics).
I've been using Canola Oil like a hippie for the past bit, though I'm sure there are better oils out there. Remember, we only have to deal with evaporation: No extreme temperatures or pressures here.

Alright, and this solves what problem? The barrel not firing? And sorry for the odd questions- but I have one last one- what do you think is wrong if one of the barrel seems to only fire a bit of air? Yet, the amount doesn't seem to decrease after time any faster than the normal barrels?

Actually, Ive found that wd40 works quite well, ti also lubricates it, so ti helps make the seal existant if it isnt there, liek what your describing on your hornet.

Hrm... so that's how a ss2's tank works on the inside. I always figured it used levers and a tank ressembling the 5k's. Perhaps I should have opened one from the stack I was sitting on a while back.*

Ooh! Airsoft knowledge applied to nerf! Don't want to revolutionize the nerf biz, but we should REALLY be using silicone petroleum free lubricant. Seeing as petroleum based products wear down rubber and latex parts something awful, they may temporarily seal a gap, but will eventually deform or make it crack. My Crossbow's plunger was a prime example, god that thing looked nasty until I finally had to replace it.

Where do you get silicone lubricant? Go to a rc hobby store and pick up a little bottle of lubricant. Remember, the higher the weight the thicker it is.

Why not use aqua-lube, KY, or some other more readily available lubricantt? Well besides admitting to yourself the intended purpose of said lubricants, they are a bit too thin compared to the high weight silicone lubricants. Plus, do you really want your air tank to "sensually heat up"?

As for my Hornet, no problems yet, but seeing as the outbreak of trouble, I wouldn't be suprised if mine ended up broken.

so.

that link that zero talent posted was a good read, does anyone know for sure if thats how that valve works? i havent been able to find anything better in explaining how that valve works. i mean, im sold on that theory, but mabey someone could call up the NERF engineering department and confirm it.
