Just installed the new 12kg Core spring from OMW in a Retaliator.  I’m thinking it might be too strong.  About 1 in 3 darts splits down its length.  Anyone else have this trouble?

It's a pretty new spring and OMW isn't super popular right now, so not many people have gotten their hands on them yet.

What setup are you using? Am curious.

Retaliator with OMW Unleashed Stage 1&2 kits, so the only internals still stock is the plunger tube.  Have the Worker under-barrel shotgun grip and will be adding once I solve the splitting dart mystery.  Then I’ll paint and sell on eBay, (azmorgs.workshop).

Haven’t measured range yet and don’t have a chrony so can’t do FPS, but I’ve done enough nerfing to guestimate quite confidently that darts are going over 100ft easily, when they aren’t splitting that is.

Now, what I’m using are old, worn out darts; maybe new ones will fare better.  I’ll try soon.

Not sure why OMW isn’t super popular right now, but I’ve always been pleased with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply.

So, it's pretty clear from both my own experiences and your anecdotes that the spring is too powerful for your dart/barrel combination. The OMW breech cannot efficiently manage the power of a 12kg spring, so I would suggest downgrading to a 7kg or 5kg spring. Your current darts may be worn, but using new Elite darts won't give you great results either. There will also be less wear and tear on your darts if you use a weaker spring.

If you're insistent on 12kg, I would very much suggest utilizing a sealed breech. There are kits for this purpose (e.g. Artifact, Worker) but the most efficient are homemade brass sleeper breeches. I realize this is for a custom build that's going on Ebay, but that's how you maximize your velocity output.

As for OMW, they've had a number of preorders and product issues that haven't really been managed well. It's all the past and I've never had a problem with parts that they've put out on their current website.

Got some new darts, Adventure Force at Walmart.  Wouldn’t normally get some sort of repli-dart, but since it was only for testing, I figured what the hey.  Turns out they’re great darts!  Ever so slightly shorter than Nerf Elite darts, but they chamber sweet & fire fantastically.  Here’s an Amazon URL to look at them, but they’re way cheaper at Walmart.  I got that 100 pack for less than $8.

I had put the 7kg spring back in the Retaliator and tried the new darts; perfect.  Worked so nicely.  Was hitting over 100’ angled.  So then I put on the Worker pump grip and put the 12kg spring back in.  All I can say is “WOW”!!!  And man, do I mean “WOW”.  The light had gone for the day so I was only firing in the house, but I bet it’ll hit 120’ or more.  I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Oh, and not one split dart.
