What in your opinion would be the best gun to tinker with for a beginner? It needs to be capable of a fair amount of power.

Best thing I can think to start with would be the nite finder or the firestrike. Simple to mod and tinker with and capable of respectable ranges. Start with some barrel replacements and you can swap out for better springs and O-rings. If you have a dremel tool or a hacksaw you can do some shell minimization. If you want even more power it is one of the easiest blasters to do an extended plunger tube for as your skills develop.

Buzz Bee Big Blast. Easy to single; add some duct tape to serve as a bushing for PVC; phenomenal power.

I would second a firestrike being your first mod.  Cheap, easy to see results and can dive into a variety of mod work, like spring, barrel, plunger, putty and even simple electrical.

Titans if you're familiar with how air pumps and high pressure tanks work. Drain blasters too.

Nite Finders and Firestrikes, given how easy it is to brass the barrel and shove a K-26 in them.

Stryfes. There are a billion drop-in kits for them, and they can get quite ridiculous with their power.

Same as most people, Nite Finders and Firestrikes.

An old Dart Tag Crossfire is pretty easy too.

So, you're saying since I just bought a Rapidstrike that I'm going to turn into a rapidpistol with 16 AWG, 3 switches and a LS2 with no electrical/dremel/modding/painting knowledge to my name is a bad choice..

Gonna do it anyway. Might turn out good, might turn out bad. Either way I'll have fun (hope I dont blow myself up).

Maybe. I did a strayvan with no electrical modding experiance whatsoever; but I'd had lots of blaster modding experiance.

If you've read the guides/seen the videos and read/watched proper soldering technique, you should be fine.

From experience I know rewiring rapidstrikes with 16AWG can be a pain if your soldering isn't too good. It can be done, but is difficult for a beginner since the blaster was designed for much thinner wire. I would practice first on something like a stryfe which has the potential to be arguably better than a rapidpistol. If you want to go for it though, good luck. My first real mod was a rapidstrike/rayven integration with full rewire. It took a really long time but ended up working fine.

I did my stryfe with 16, and it was a bitch to put back together. Damn, I need to sand it down, redo the base coat, and add that green coat I want.

My first mod was a Longshot. But then again I'm an engineer.

From a cost standpoint anything you can thrift for under $5 is good to try modding.
