Ok so we're at MATEY today, and we're warring. We move over to the playset, and there are people having a picnic about 100 feet behind it. We think nothing of it, and nerf. Apparently, a piece of foam bounced off a pole, carried in the wind, and landed appoxximately 20 feet away from the picnicing family.

So he comes out and yells at us, And we calmly walk away, begin to pack up and go to the other side of the park, to avoid calamity. So as we're packing up, two cops pull up.
Posted Image

So they pull up, and the dad, who apparently called the cops, walked up and approached, and admited he sicked them on us. He Said, and I quote,

"Those stupid dumbasses mother f*ckers shot and it almost hit us. I mean, there are kids all over! (Note there were none at the time other than those picnicing, but at this point there was) "and told his bullshit side of the story.

Then we tell ou side of the story and this retarded cop starts talking about charging jake with felonious assault with an air rifle. This is where I chiommed in that we were shooting f*cking foam darts, and not at a very high FPS either. He noted that, then proceded to kick us out of the park. So here we are at my house, with 15 guys, nerfing.

And we poor one out for our bruthas.

It's a shame man, but it happens. We got nailed, and the cop could find no reason to kick us out. He proceed to do so anyway. When I asked for a reason, he saw a dart on the ground, said we littered and proceed to kick us out. It happens, but 90% of the time, if you have a good attitude, they won't do anything but ask you to stay away from people.

Heh heh, I could just imagine you explaining how the dart got where it ended up to a judge who didn't know what a nerf gun is. It'd be like the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer got spit on after the baseball game.

Remember that when your children are murdered and they are looking for the culprit. Cops suck...remember those words when your car is stolen and they bring it back to your house. They're doing their job...there's no reason to be a dick about it.

Cops don't suck, I respect them. Stupid asshats like that man who ratted on you should have their asses probed with hot metal rods with lots of little points. I'm sure he could have just asked to move away, instead of calling the fucking cops. He's probably wasting their time, they could be doing something more productive than chasing kids around playing with bright plastic toy guns. I mean, is it REALLY that hard to just ask you guys to move? I guess that asshole was just too scared of a bunch of kids with bright plastic TOY guns.

You have to remember it's a public park, and of all places to play in a park like that, the playset or playground, is probably not the most choice place to play on a busier day at the park. I understand they were a hundred feet away, but I've seen people hit from more than that. I'm not sure who the host was, but it was his obligation to take the game elsewhere.

As much as we call it a "public" park, we have to remember that the public has first dibs on it, rather than us, because of what we use it for.

The cops are doing their job, it's that simple. But I honestly can't share your animosity. We've had a million different altercations with the police around here on the east coast at plenty of places, and the cops take the same stance, "That's cool as hell - but please, make sure you know that there's other people around".

What really sucks, is that guy's retooling of the story.

The moral of the story is, keep your distance, even if you didn't do any harm it's just safer that way.

The thing is, he said that he was moving away, but the guy called the cops on him anyways. That's what bugged me. And he could have just asked the group to move.

The only experience we've had was when a few days ago we were nerfing at a local high school and suddenly all these little kids started showing up for day camps, and the teacheers were kinda not sure if it was a good idea to do what we were doing. We took a break until they went in classrooms, then had a hell load of fun.

That why we just warred at my house for 6 1/2 hours :P

What really annoys me is that the guy told us not to play on the play thing so we started moving to another part of the park, then the cops came.

When he started swearing I was about to break down crying and just say "HE SAID THE F WORD"

But the cops were there and I didn't want any trouble.

The only things I can say here are that if you reacted to the cop the same way you tell the story here, its no wonder you got kicked out. Just cause one moron adult starts swearing at you guys doesn't invoke the right for you to start swearing back. Actually, if he's swearing in the direction of you and you calmly tell the cop the situation, the cop will most likely believe you.

Also the, "its only foam moving slowly" excuse will never work.
I don't know about you guys, but in our wars, specially with the Philly kids' airguns, those darts are moving pretty fast.(Just ask OMC about his welt from Gnomefest) And when people aren't aware of what exactly is being fired remotely close to them, they get very nervous. We know the darts aren't deadly, but they don't.

We dealt with a similar situation at Gnomefest where one of the Philly kids accidentally hid in bushes that were a part of someone's property. The person came out and mentioned that to us and we were polite(no profanity was used) merely said that we were sorry and would play further down the hill, and then we matched actions to our words, and nothing more was heard from the guy. So just remember the manners that your mother taught you, and you will go farin keeping our local nerfing venues open for your use.

Actually, ATB is full of himself, (not insultingly, he just got caught up in the...Action...) none of us said anything bad, Jake handled the talking (Him being a law student and all). The guy was swearing and using profanity and thats when we said that there was no need for swearing. Then the cops came over ATB showed them a dart and they kind of smirked and just told us that we should go somewhere with less people so that they don't have to get called back. In which we proceeded to ATB's house.

We did everything politely and listened to the cops. I don't think the cops were bad, but I think that guy was being a moron.

Anyway, we used our manners, and followed the directions of the police officer. Which was to pretty much leave the park for a while...

Oh yeah, we were using some pretty high powered guns...

Anyway, it turned out though the war had nothing to do with Pirates like we intended, moving it to ATB's house and my house made the war a bit better...like the pizza, and the water...and the ditches, and the lack of middle aged pedaphiles

By saying the war should be taken elsewhere, I didn't mean elsewhere like to someone's house, I meant somewhere else in the park.

Yeah, we've had wars in that part of the park before and there's never been any people, and as we were packing up to leave somewhere less crowded, the cops came and told us to leave the park for a while so they don't get called back.

The funny part was the Cop said:

"Well think of this. Lets say you shoot one into the air, And it gets carried by the wind. Not to say you are a bad shot of course."

To pick up from where Evil left off, may I remind you of this classic LCM moment and article by Evil:

http://evilangelnj.t.../nerf/id72.html

Cops should be respected and treated with the upmost politeness as goes with park patrons. It's usually LCM cutsom to approach other users in the park that are in remotely close to gun range of what we are doing and the fact that our weapons are not paintball. If people come within firing range, the war is paused. Proactiveness is always better than a sitaution happening.

Cops usually don't care about nerfers, unless if it disturbs or hurts someone else. You should have approached the guy and told him that you were (you felt) far enough away that they werre in a safe range, and if he had a problem offered to move.
