I was wondering if any one has made a successtfull flash-bang grenade? I thought it would be cool to make because I have wars in pitch black and it would surprize the shit out of anyone. I saw grenade and smoke-bomb topics, but no flash-bang topics. If you have a link or suggestion post. A simple flash would work to.

no, you cannot make a flashbang, because the way they work is by bright and loud enough flash and bang to disorient the the human mind. for this to happen, you need a fairly serious pyrotechnic device. the kind that is illegal, dangerous, and hard to get.

again, this isn't counterstrike, it's nerf. hurting people's eyes and ears has no place, and as cranky says, shooting them in the dark is plenty surprising.

Any good party store should have a couple... The downside is that you'd need to plug it in to the wall. You should be able to get the same effect with a camera flash at close range. However, if you ask me, that's not Nerf. That's playing a rather stupid prank with a toy gun in your hand.

I think bobert has got the right idea. Fireworks would be a really good idea. In darkness, any flash of light would make you blinded for a couple of seconds until your eyes adjust back. There has got to be a way to make a safe flashbang for nighttime play out of fireworks.

Bobert, those lazer flashes are extremely bright in darkness. But it might be a little hard to set it off. Think about it, you have to stop and pull out a lighter, hold the lighter in one hand, the firework in the other, and light the thing and toss it. That's alot of time the enemy has to ambush you.

Flashing objects that emit light in all directions won't help you. They will be just as disorienting to you as to your target. The ony thing that will work well is a uni-directional strobelight of some kind. Like this one for $12:

It's funny that I just see this posted. Only a few days ago I was considering building a flash from an old camera into one of my guns. I figured out how to wire it and all right next to the laser sight. In the end I decided it was sort of pointless and scrapped the idea. It is possible to put a simple disposable camera flash circuit into many guns with a bit of wire and solder though. Just open up a standard disposable camera and you'll see what I mean (careful though, one of those shocked me pretty hard when I touched part of the circuit).

Those firework strobes are extremely effective...I mean extremely. I was playing and someone threw one into the street, and all of a sudden I was blinded and could only see someone for a second before they moved behind that flash again.

Strobelights work in smaller areas where the flash can reach everywhere, or else is really just doesn't effect anything.

A clanmate tried hooking up a flash camera system into his gun one time...don't remember him ever using it...but I do remember him using it before it was in the gun.

Now this was a huge letdown. The other day we were having a night war at myhouse, and we set up the strobe in the corner of my yard and it didn't even affect those who were right next to it. Lesson learned, strobes are for indoor use only.

I bet that if enought people work on this idea i'm about to give you, someone will come up with somthing.........

Try putting like a camera flash or disposible flash system in to like a bottle or somthing like that, (hey, there is clear PVC pipe now, right? maybe that.......) you can set the trigger to be like a plastic strip or somthing. or like a egg-timer wired in the circuit so that it can be set off (note: this is just spilling out of my head, so if it sounds crazy, i'm sorry)

So someone take this idea and create a MONSTER!!!!!!!!! haha.

I'm not sure there is much sense in making a bright flash at all. If you can see the person at night and are thinking of flashing them with something why dont you just shhot them. It's much easier and it will save you some time.

If you really want to temporarrily blind someone I would suggest something called S.W.A.T. teams. Most big city police stations have them and they are fitted with the latest and greatest weapons and gadgets to take charge of any situation.

A bright flash would dialate someones eyes, right? So, if you use a shot and miss, a bright flash would help you to escape.

That would be true, but if you hit them it would save some time. Personally I would always shoot before using anything else, i.e. flash, smoke, etc.

Well, I would use it as a last resort. If you run out of ammo, I'd use it.

ok.. if you want to temporarily blind people with a device like a Flash Bang or something like that... just get a Mag-Light. As NSF said.. Shoot them, and if u miss, flash them with a Mag and the most important part. RUN AWAY TO RELOAD/be stupid and keep using the Mag at their eyes

If you guys want to create a flash-bang I really think you guys should talk to our friend black wrath. He can introduce you to MY little friend called magnesium. (The chemical/metal that is actually found in a flash-bang. But to tell you the truth this stuff is very dangerous to play with and I would not recommend this for nerf because the only way I know of how to make a flash-bang involves pennies and when the compression of the magnesium the penny bomb will explode causing a bright flash and extremely loud bang AND causing pennies to fly in every directions. I will repeat this one more time so I don’t get flamed for time “This Is Not Recommended for Nerf.”

But talk to b.w if your really interested.

No, not mad. I'm hoping I don't get a flood of PMs regarding this though. I don't think Cx would appriciate my explanation of pure magnesium on his Nerf forums, so I'll keep it to PMs if you kids really want to know more.

All I'll say is that it's better than any strobe light. All you need is a film canister... Mg, black power, and some imagination. That's all for now kids.

Oh, and I think that flash-bang isn't very practical in Nerf wars unless it's a night war, and you like to be blinded for up to 90 seconds. Plus, Blink's plan C was awesome... backing soda in a test tube. Brillant.
