I am not very skilled at soldering. I spilled some on to the motor and then melted it off(fail).
Is not working with alligator clips and a 9volt.
Any way to fix or do I need a new one.

I do not have much experience with motors and such, but you'd probably need to buy some new ones... Did it melt onto the motor and burn the plastic? It's hard to tell since the picture is kind of dark. If not, then there could be that you damaged the linkage between the motor, and the wire. Most likely, you should just invest into a new pair of motors.

Experiment with this one before you spend any more money unnecessarily. Go on youtube and watch some videos on the proper way to solder, then try again. If these are actually ruined mechanically, at least you can practice making decent solder welds so next time you get it right.

You might be shorting out because the solder is touching the contact point and the can, get it completely clean (maybe even by sanding/wire brush) and then test it.
