Hello! Just acquired a Crimson Strike Longshot from thrifting and wanted to mildly upgrade it's spring. I'm not planning on using it "competetively," I'd just like it to have a little more "umph" for small battles if I want it. I currently have a Maverick and a Recon CS-6 spring lying around. Will either of those be usable to upgrade it? If not, could I get a 5 or 7 kg spring for it?

Also, will any of these upgrades require anything else to be upgraded or reinforced for it to function?

I'm just looking for a simple low-no cost upgrade to give it a little more power.

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, How do I go about removing the priming rod without damaging it. I also forgot to mention I don't wish to remove the AR.

A Recon spring would be perfect if you just want a tad more "oomph" to it.  It's relatively weak enough to not warrant too many reinforcements even though it might be a good idea to anyway.  However, you probably won't get a good range increase if you don't remove the AR mind you.

Also, as far as the priming rod goes; just grab your fav claw hammer and pry it off.  You'll be okay unless you pry it off in a weird spot I'd imagine.  Just do it where it's unprimed at.  A flathead screwdriver can also be used.

If you do not remove the air restrictors, the FPS gains will be pitiful (2-10). With the springs you mentioned, a recon/longshot combo would give you about 60fps and 85-90 without the ARs. A maverick/longshot would get around 55fps and 65 without ARs. A maverick/recon/longshot would get 70fps and around 100-110 without the ARs. With that said, I would highly recommend that you take out the air restrictors.
YOU MUST reinforce the bolt-sled with any spring upgrade. It would truly be a pity if you mod a crimson longshot, only to have it break a few months later. You can reinforce it with a piece of polycarbonate, sheet metal, or a piece of a metal clothes hanger.
Just take a quick look at the write ups in the modifications section, you'll find all the info there.
Good luck modding, and don't break that Crimson longshot!!!

Bubba

Edit: There is no need to buy a 5kg spring as the recon/longshot combo will get that. The maverick/recon/ longshot combo will substitute for the 7kg.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

Bubba, I've never modded a Longshot before(probs obvious :P). What is the bolt-sled, and how would I reinforce it with the metal clothes hanger? BTW, the reason I didn't wanna remove the AR was out of fear of breaking the Crimson Longshot. Will it not be an issue as long as I don't dry-fire?

Well... If you do not have any modding experience, and don't know what a bolt sled is, I'd recommend that you mod something easier before the Longshot. The Longshot's internals are quite complicated and a beginner may be overwhelmed.

With that aside, the boltsled is the piece that the two priming handles are connected to. The bolt-sled is what actually moves back the spring to compress it. When you add an extra spring, there is a risk that the 90 degree (or commonly referred to as the L joint) joint may break due to the extra power. This is because the stock sled was only designed to push back the stock spring.
There is a great write up on reinforcing your boltsled (link below), or you can buy a replacement that is made by Orange mod works on Amazon.

If you do take out the ARs, pad the plunger with something. This can be craft foam, dart foam, or felt. The ultimate plunger head padding is foam rubber, and that can be found on most mouse pads. And yes, NEVER dry-fire a blaster with the restrictors out. If you do once or twice by accident, it is ok with padding. Just avoid dry firing in general as it's harmful to a modded blaster even with padding in the long run.

Good luck,
Bubba.

I have done some stuff. I've removed ARs from Mavericks, Upgraded the spring on a Recon, and removed the switches from a Modulus. I've just got little experience with the mechanical aspects(or names of mechanical parts) of the blasters.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Check out the directory of mods and internals. It's super helpful when your getting started.
