So after going through all 16 pages of the darts and barrels section of the forum I couldn't find an answer so I figure it's time to ask. I found that in my area, beige foam slugs fit really well in 17/32 brass. So naturally I want to use that as my barrel material. I've already used pliers to flare out the end, and I've been trying to wrap e tape until it's the correct thickness for 1/2" pvc, but the e tape slides forward and "telescopes" down the length of the brass. When I remove even a little bit it's instantly too loose and it's very frustrating, so I have no idea if I'm doing this right so if you know of any guides or have any tips please let me know, thanks.

I would recommend using packing tape instead. It's got a larger width and is more suitable to be compressed and not stick annoyingly to the inside of the pipe. May also want to put tape at the front and back of the brass, so its somewhat consistently centered within your 1/2" PVC.

And if you don't have packing tape (for whatever reason) you can use duct tape or something similar.

I don't know anything about bass; I prefer to get into treble with my CPVC barreled 4B.  :P

You could try using some thin, dish cleaning cloth cut into strips, securing the base of the strips to the brass with hot glue then wrapping two or three thin layers of that around the brass until you get a snug fit into the pvc. Then you could secure it all with some hot glue or epoxy.

Try alternative tapes as suggested.

Also are you wrapping the whole thing in electrical tape? Or just the front and back of the barrel? You really just need front and back. Also you really only need the back to be a really tight fit. The front just needs to be close enough to prevent wiggling.

If nothing works try this:

Cut the PVC barrel about an inch shorter than the brass/than it is now.

Wrap tape around just the back of the brass.

Insert the untaped (front) end of the brass into the barrel then push the barrel all the way in until some brass sticks out the front and the back (taped) end is seated all the way.

Wrap tape around the front of the brass until it is snug in a stub of PVC, but don't press the PVC on all the way yet!

Put a coupler on the front of the barrel (this will go over the bit of brass, but it will not fit tightly on the tape), then put a stub of PVC in the front of the coupler to fit tightly around the taped brass.

It will probably look best if that sub of PVC doesn't actually stick out of the coupler much, but it's up to you.

Sometimes you get just the right sch80 x 1/2" and 17/32" just slides in perfect...
