Hi 1st post here. I bought the Hyperfire recently. I'm looking to find out what are the quickest and easiest mods to upgrade performance?

 

I've seen some videos online about removing the lock and simplifying the internals etc (does this increase power?). 

Also seen some battery kits with "3x 3.7v & dummy AA with 4x D shape converters" (are these any good?)

 

There doesn't appear to be a quick list of things to do. Thanks in advance.

Removing locks does not improve performance, it only makes the blaster easier and smoother to use. If you are going to to the AA size to D size mod then use IMRs not trustfires. Please note that you will be decreasing the longevity of the blaster by putting in a higher voltage without upgrading the wiring, switches and motors.

The Hyperfire hasn't been very popular with modders because its belt-drive pusher is unreliable. There isn't as much documentation about it.

Any flywheel, cage, or motor that fits in a Stryfe or Rapidstrike will fit the Hyperfire.

Follow modding best practices, use thick heatproof wires, use high current switches, etc.

The Hyperfire is especially exciting for electronics mods because it has large open pockets of dead space in the front and back.

That is not true. The flywheel cage for the Hyperfire is VERY different from the Stryfe or Rapidstrike. It has a canted cage, which whirlybirds darts if you run anything more than Honeybadger and 2S lipo in it.

 

Source - I just finished doing CAD models of both cages. 

 

Also, 3x 3.7V will burn out stock motors. you want 2 IMRs and 2 dummy cells. DO NOT USE Trustfires, or Ultrafires. Use efest of windyfire IMR cells. A rewire and 2S lipo or 7.2NiMH would be better if you don't want to replace motors.

Thanks for the replies. What is the maximum voltage I can run with the stock gear? I take it all that would be replaced are the stock motors, wiring and switches (all internal original plastic bits and gears would be sufficient with increased voltages)?

 

Are there any existing links or guides showing which wiring, motors etc are best to get and where?

...would this mean 2 x 3.7v AA batteries with 2 dummies could run on stock with a rewire? Thanks again.

Totally right. I was referring to the notes I made for the Rapidstrike and they were mistaken.

 

From my research, the flywheels and motors are the same size as those in the Rapidstrike and Stryfe, but yeah, many aftermarket flywheels will probably misalign in a stock Hyperfire cage.

Thanks for the replies. Would the best thing to do without changing flywheels and motors etc (due to misalignment) is to rewire and use stronger batteries?

 

If so, what is the maximum voltage I can run with the stock gear? ...and recommended number of AA 3.7Vs/blanks? Would it be 2xAA 3.7V and 2 x AA blanks in D adapters?

2x3.7V and 2 dummy cells should run the stock gear. Amperage is just as important as voltage. Make sure you're using cells that can supply sufficient current. Alkaline D cells are capable of at least 13A i believe. You want batteries that can supply at least that much.

Thanks, would these do the job? ..In a 2xAA + 2xAA (side by side) in D adaptors with blanks?

Assuming those are genuine Efest, they are a far superior chemistry and are much better for Nerf purposes.
