Is it worth taking out the retaliator AR? I have see multiple guides that take out the AR but does it
really help?

I Found some epoxy putty hidden in the basement and freaked out.

For stock (ish) dart purposes, no. Keep the AR in. 

 

The newer Nerf blasters have ARs that don't majorly decrease performance and also protect the blaster from breakage. 

 

If you plan on brass breeching, (or aftermarket stefan breeches), then removing the AR is required.
