Hey! I'm new here, so let's start with a bang!

A few months ago, I bought a Stryfe along with the Worker Kriss Vector kit. Little did I know, I would eventually stuff it with new internals, and give it a new paint job. At this moment, this blaster is incomplete.I need to install a larger switch that I already have, and I am waiting on a new flywheel cage. This is more of a work in progress post rather than a "lookie at what I've got done" post. I learned a lot from this build and paint job. I learned how to use a Dremel tool, found out how to appropriately spray paint a blaster, discovered things that I shouldn't do next time as well as taking note of which things I need to improve on. I like the build and Star Wars feel that I get from it and I hope others do too. I hope to inspire others, to entourage them, to teach them what to do and what not to do, and show them that they can maybe get more fun and learn something from modding Nerf.

  • For this paint scheme, I used a black textured variant of Rustoleum to give the blaster a matte look and to attempt to match the Worker kit's texture. I then tapped off parts that I wanted to stay black and added a layer of white matte Valspar since I couldn't find the Rustoleum version in nearby stores. After it was dry to the touch plus a couple hours, I touched up some of the spots with matte white Tamiya and flat black Testors acrylic paint which I had lying around for model tank projects. All was sealed with light coat of a Rustoleum 2x satin clear coat.

You can see some of the parts where my brush wasn't thin enough and where my hand wasn't steady enough. Painter's tape failed me here in some parts, but worked in others once I pressed it down firmly enough:

The stock is especially bad since I rushed parts of it and tried to cover a mistake, which ended up snowballing on me. The recessed spots were hard to get, and I smudged the text:

Previously, I re-wired the blaster with 18 gauge wire, slapped on worker flywheels along with 180 motors from Hobbyzone and powered them with Trustfire batteries. I had issues with the cage and flywheels rubbing against each other, but I didn't know where. After mere seconds of testing the flywheel cage assembly, I managed to melt my stock flywheel cage the one of the worker flywheels so, I decided to order one from Ben at BlackSteelProps which is still being processed at the time of this post. I plan on using a 3D 180 motor cover from Blastersmiths UK to cover up the messy wiring.

I also plan to use a larger, 21 amp rated switch from Digi-Key. Since I'm still new at this, so I've decided to go ahead with Trustfires. Maybe I'll try out IMR's in the near future since the new circuit should be able to withstand the large current. I will upgrade to LiPo batteries once I understand them thoroughly.

You are NOT new. Holy crap that's good paintjob. How long did it take you to complete this project (internals, paint, shell mods). You should try your hand at making a Plusbow, because if you are this good with a first (I assume) time build, than just go for it.

Ah, Thanks! When I mean "New" I mean to the forums. I guess I also want to say that this is the first project that I've taken seriously in a long while. When I was younger, I used to just go willy-nilly and drench a whole blaster in gold spray paint. Since then, I've learned a lot from watching a lot of Youtube videos from people like Bobololo, WalcomS7, MTB, LordDrac, and -yes- Coop too. This paint theme was partly inspired by TK1138's load out.

I started this project at the beginning of July, putting in new flywheels, bigger wire, and Trustfires. Near the end of that month I put in the 180's and melted my cage and ordered an new one from BSP. It's been sitting in my closet until a week ago which is when I decided to paint it up and show it off here.  

Ah man! Do I ever want to build a Plusbow or some other homemade blaster, but sadly I don't have the tools to do it all. I have connections to a robotics team I was with a couple years back, so perhaps they could let me borrow some of their things? We'll see.

Trustfires are dangerous and don't actually provide enough current. Use IMR batteries (if you want AA sized) or rewire for a lipo.

I'm planning to use IMR's as stated in my first post. Do you have any recommendations as to where to buy them?

As for LiPo's, I need to learn a little bit more before I make the commitment and dive into a more expensive initial cost power source (albeit they are less costly in the long run). Again, do you have any recommendations for this setup? Any reliable sources that discuss LiPo and the many different types/aspects that they possess?

please put things like this in the mod's and paindjobs thread next time. it doesnt just have to be the pictures, feel free to make big posts in there showing all your sicknasty mods in detail. looks awesome though, good stuff.

Also, use the (img) and (/img) tags (where "(" should be a bracket) to post images. Nerfhaven's interface has always been better than other forums', you click the little picture button (mine appears on the 2nd row after the link/break link buttons) and paste the image's url into the popup. You get that by right-clicking and choosing 'copy image location', or by choosing the direct link in the imgur setup page.

14500 IMR cells can barely handle upgraded 130 motors. 180's on trustfires are a death wish. 180's LiPo, but you might be able to get away with running 2s2p 14500 cells. If you have really good ones.

I'm running rhino 130s on and 14500 imrs and I can run 2 batteries for solid performance. 3 is insane.

Oh my! Will they burst into flames or something? I've ran the pair of 180's on three of the Trustfire cells (which is what melted my flywheel cage to the flywheel itself in the first place. However, that incident was due to improper spacing between the cage and flywheels). I only got the chance to do this for a few seconds and they seemed fine. It would have been nice if I had the opportunity to further test it.

Gut the electronics, drill a hole in the shell, and attach a crank to the gear. Bam, crank-action stampede that doesn't require batteries, or even a trigger.

...(also judging by your past posts, I would consider you pretty dang wise elder like in the modding community :lol: )

Actually, they can. Over-discharge can permanently damage the battery and hinder what little function it already had. Severe over-discharge could cause them to vent flammable gas (which will ignite). Here's what would most likely happen when you would try to run MTB Wolverines in a Stryfe off of 2 of them (trying to draw about 100a from a 1a power supply):

I bet you could guarantee detonation by getting a Stryfe with 2 Tamiya Plasma Dash motors, with their stock magnets replaced with neodymium ones, and try to rev it with 4 of them.

 Since the downtime of the site, Kookies 'n Kreme is mostly finished for the mean time. Motors, wiring, and the new flywheel cage has been installed with other appropriate parts lubed up. Soon, I will be using a new motor and battery setup. I'm looking forward to getting a pair of the new MTB Wolverines once they are back in stock. I have already ordered a 1000mah 2s  25c LiPo  but I am already thinking of ordering a 3s once I can find one that can neatly fit in my build with an expanded battery pack.
