I am in the process of rebarreling my BBB, and I was wondering which type of pipe to use for the coupler and barrel!

Coupler use a 1/2 in pvc coupler than take a 1/2 cpvc coupler sand it till it is hard to push in the coupler but possible than stick a peice of 1/2 in covc in that.

Greatly depends on what you want to shoot. For example, many different kinds of foam have a nice push/twist fit in CPVC, but if you ahve really, really fat stefans, you might want to consider PETG or brass. Elite darts have a very tight fit in CPVC, and can be hard to have a high ROF with a single barrel. It is also worth noting that 1/2 PEX can be you "alternate" CPVC if it is unavailable.

 

1/2 PVC is basically too large for any darts besides the "mega stefans". For a 3B firing elites, 17/32 brass is the way to go.

Because I can't be bothered to make or buy stefans, I'll be using elites. Now, how would I barrel the 17/32 brass pipe in the BBB?

This is a fairly basic skill in nerf modding, though, and applies to most blasters worth using.  Start with couplering the blaster, then you can try all sorts of different barrels to fit whatever foam you are using at the time.

Note that at the power levels we usually play at, the actual material does not matter nearly as much as what its inner diameter is.  Shop by fit, not by type.  Don't think in terms of CPVC, brass, PETG, think in terms of .527, 17/32, medium wall, etc.  Note that PVC and CVPC are not manufactured to a specific ID, they will vary.  I have CPVC that is a fall-through fit for Elite darts.  You can use this knowledge to your advantage when it comes to 1/2" PVC - if you find pipe with a wider ID, you can sheath other types of materials inside it and connect that to a 1/2" coupler directly.  PVC sheathing is great for covering up exposed metal and running speedloaders.
 

I strongly recommend buying 3rd party China darts instead of using Elites in your BBB.  It has too much power for Elites, they won't be stable.  Have a look through the NH stock dart guide.  Maybe try ACC, VTN, USC.  They are also substantially cheaper, you can get a thousand darts for $30-40.

If I went with a brass barrel, should I telescope it (starting with 17/32), or just have the entire barrel be 17/32' brass?

No need to telescope with elites. Just remember to cover the brass with something so that it won't cut anyone.

 

You might want to consider making a brass breech for a 3b, though. It's a efficient and will increase ROF a ton.

I know that all brass can fit over eachother (I.e 17/32 < 9/16 < 19/32, etc). But what I'm talking about is what type of pipe (CPVC and PVC) can fit over the least amount of brass pipe layers

Whatever the largest size pipe you end up with on the outside of your breech is, wrap that in e tape until it fits. Seriously though dude, open the modifications directory and read through all the mods listed. It doesn't really take that long, and you'll not only learn the important modding tropes but also how they evolved and what not to use. It's how I figured it all out, and it's worked well for me so far. We don't exist to spoon-feed you every little thing about a mod. The info is already there, you just have to find it.

1/2" PVC usually fits any barrel inside of it. Wrap whatever you're using in E-tape until it fits in the PVC. CPVC is the exception in that it does *not* fit unless you have thinwall/200 psi 1/2" PVC or 'magic' 1/2" PVC that fits fine for no apparent reason (It might be some kind of conduit?). CPVC barrels stand up ok on their own though, so they don't need to be sheathed.

The "magic" pvc is just 1/2" PVC with a really sloppy ID tolerance. For plumbing applications, the ID doesn't really matter, only the OD has to be exact so the ID ends up varying wildly, even within the same batch.

^ PVC and CPVC do not have precise ID specifications.  Even "magic" varieties vary, the magic label just refers to any fit that is large enough to sheath other materials, but tight enough that no e-tape is needed.  Your barrel might slide through the magic pipe or it might take a hammer to get it in all the way.  It's really a crapshoot, so you'll have to keep visiting stores and testing fits if you want to use PVC sheathing without tape.

"1/2" PVC is a *trade name*, not an actual measurement of the diameter.  It's really around 5/8ths.

 

The PVC we use is drain pipe, rated a certain way, and the names have frankly nothing to do with any part of any of their dimension. What is called '1/2" sch. 40 PVC' is actually 0.840" OD with a minimum wall thickness of 0.109". That means you should have a maximum ID of 0.622, but because it's easier to have sloppier tolerances, that maximum is likely rare. Meanwhile, 17/32" brass is 17/32" OD (0.53125").

 

Also, the CPVC we use is supply pipe, rated an entirely different way from PVC, has completely different sizes, and still none of the parts of a piece called '1/2" CPVC' are actually 1/2".

Hobby stores, Amazon and some Ace hardwares carry it (some can also special order it if they don't have it in stock). Again, this is something that can be easily found with Google or the NH search function. We don't exist to repeat the same info most of us have typed out at least 5 times each on this site...

Hey man! You definitely want to use CPVC for your BBB if it's available. CPVC couplers will fit pretty well on a cut down barrel. Also make sure you put another spring in your BBB.

I put a [k26] in there (and reinforced things of course). And about the barrel, I thought 17/32 brass would be better than (I assume) 1/2" CPVC.
