So I was at some weird skatepark/park place with a friend of mine. He likes skateboarding and I like watching people fall so that's why I was there. Anyway, since it was basically just a fenced in park with skate ramps around it there were other people coming in doing things other than skating. There was a group of kids running around shooting each other with these little pellet guns. Here's what I know so far about the guns they were using: They look like small handguns but because of their small size and orange tip they can't normally be mistaken for real guns, they shoot small round plastic pellets, they hurt slightly but the ammunition is very inexpensive, the guns these kids had cocked like those guns you see in the movies (the top part slides), with each shot you need to cock the gun again, and i noticed the gun came with a clip feature. Now I think this is a website with some of those guns http://www.knifeco.c...sp?item=8000001 but I think these may not be the exact same. They let me shoot a few times with them and the guns were very fun, but I also heard that they may be illegal for those of us under sixteen. I'm not sure if this is true or not. Also there may be semi automatic or automatic versions of this gun that I think I saw in a local mall. I'm not sure of any of these things so tomorrow I'll be posting about that when I go to find out. Anyways I was just putting this here to hear your thoughts and ideas about these, or if any of you have seen these before, and if you have have you seen mods for it.

Note: The guns I saw did not seem like they were made only for adults. They did not hurt too much, and the only real danger is hitting someone in the eye. There is also a little legal status thing in the website, but once again I do not know if these are the same guns. I'll be getting the rest of the facts for sure tomorrow.

EDIT: Wrong link, this is the right one

Well my friend what you were shooting was a spring action “airsoft gun.” Extremely fun. I actually have one my self. As for being illegal I don’t think so because I bought mine a Canadian tire. But you did have to be over 18 to buy one. The ammo is also very cheep I think it was 7 bucks for 1000 plastic bb’s. (CANADIAN) How a spring gun works is when you pull back the slide on top of the gun (cock the gun) you are actually compressing a spring. Then when the trigger is pulled the spring is released hitting the
Air soft bb that is sitting in an “o-ring.” The same idea as a nerf NF. The automatic works as the same way only the slide in inside the gun and also attached to a motor. When the trigger is pressed the motor is turned on and starts to pull back and release the slide causing the bb’s to come out in full auto mode. They are not very pricey and can be bought in different ways (I guess you can call it that.)

There is
Spring> Pull back slide, compresses spring, pull trigger and fire
Electric> This is battery powered and is connected to a motor, full and semi- auto mode.
Gas> This I think works the same was as a paint ball gun but does not use co2 only green gas(I think it’s the same thing) compression is gained and shot out like a paintball

This my friend is the wonderful world of air soft

PS. Yes the link you gave out is what you were shooting. Airsoft, softair same thing

What the heck? An airsoft gun works with air force, not impact force. There is no spring hitting bbs in an airsoft gun. An airsoft gun works just like spring Nerf guns. A plunger is attached to a spring which is compressed. Pulling the trigger releases the plunger which sends compressed air out the barrel.

And what the heck are you talking about NiteFinders using springs that hit the darts? No Nerf gun (that I can think of) knocks the dart out of the barrel with a shove by a spring. The NF uses a plunger/plunger tube to create air pressure which launches the dart.

Well I'll be damned, this is airsoft? I always assumed that was some sort of paintball gun thing. Thanks for the information.

EDIT: Well holy double fuck up, the first link is the one with the gun i think the kids had. The second link may show airsoft guns.

Is it air force…? I never new I’m sorry. But what about an air soft revolver? Does this use air force or does it hit the bb? No idea.

And vintage what I was referring to is that the NF is a SPRING gun and that is uses the same type of idea as a spring being compressed. Not hitting the bb. (Which I found out was incorrect!) :D

Heh. My cousin has a broken Deagle look alike springer. I toyed with it, and told him I could probably fix it and make it a little better in the process.

Yeah, airsoft is pretty cool.

Ok, let me clear a few things up. Vintage pretty much explained how the springers work, so I'll go onto the other kinds of airsoft weapons. Another pretty cheap and beginner weapon would be a mini aeg; a airsoft gun that runs off of AA batteries (sometimes other types) and is 1:3 scale to a real firearm. These can shoot full auto and single fire with .12g bb's. Pretty fun in a backyard. This type of gun uses a piston to give a burst of air to propell a bb.

Tokyo Marui Mini Mp5

The next step up from a springer is a gas pistol, which is very powerful. These guns are heavy weight, 1:1 scale, and use green gas to fire .2g-.25g bb's. This model can shoot semi or fully automatic.

KSC Glock 18

And last, but certainly not least, is your aeg, which runs off special batteries. These are full size rifles with realistic tradesmarks, heavy weight, and down right cool looking. They are used in big airsoft events everywhere and are ideal for the serious and experienced airsofter. All these aeg's are the best kind of airsoft guns you can buy and they usually have a stock fps of 280 (but can be greatly increased with upgrades). These rifles also work with a high grade piston/s and metal gears.

One last thing about airsoft guns. If you do decide to get an airsoft gun, make sure it has hop up. Hop up is built into the gun and puts a foward spin on the bb, making it go further and straighter.

So, that is a very brief breakdown of the major types of airsoft guns. Although many of you probably don't care about these specs, some people might.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that there are spring airsoft rifles that need to be cocked after every shot. There are some good and durable models out there right now.

I have never owned a springer revolver. They probably do fire the bb with the impact of the hammer onto the bb itself. But when most people think 'springer airsoft' they are thinking of a gun that has a plunger that is compressed for each shot.

All airsoft guns use pressurized air to launch the bb (with the exception of the cheap revolvers). Springers use plungers and a physical motion of a slide to compress them, electrics use plungers and motors to compress them, gas guns use already compressed air with a regulator.

If you want a decent airsoft spring pistol, check out anything by KWC here. Anything by HFC is crap. Whatever you do, don't buy HFC pistols.

For a spring rifle, the UHC MP5 here is very good. Otherwise, the Hardball 2 shotguns on the same site are excellent for the price.

Edit: CustomSnake202, hop-up puts backwards spin on the bb, much like pitching a fastball. Putting forwards spin would make the bb drop fast like pitching a sinker.

Ok, I went to the mall and found something called a zebra II. I think it's one of these guns, just a cheap little three dollar version. They sell them at some place called gamers paradise if you're interested and have one near you.

I came into this thread a little late...time to clear a thing up.Green gas is more like propane, not CO2. It is flammable, and has a similar molecular structure. Red gas is also the same (or so I've heard), but at a higher pressure. Now there is a mythed "black gas", which will blow the internals out of a stock GBB (gas blow back) gun.

As for the higher quality spring guns, like the Sun Project M40A1, they can be upgraded with heavier springs, reinforced bolt handles, stronger spring guides, stronger better sealing pistons, tightbore barrels, and gas conversion kits. With the right setup, the rifle mentioned will shoot a bb through your precious crossbow at 75 feet. Trust me on that. But, by the time you get it to that level, it will be outlawed by most American airsoft groups and will have invested upwards of 750USD :P . Although that all changes when you build your own rifle out of a cheap paintball marker, but you lose your RoF.
