Hey folks new here.  Years ago my dad was given a Secret Shot II as a gag gift.  Me and a kid I was babysitting were playing around and I think it got over pumped because now it wont fire.  This is now, many years later, I found it and decided I want to fix it but I have no idea where to start.  I know literally nothing about this stuff but I just want it to work.  

 

So yeah, Secret Shot II.  Totally stock.  Will not hold any air pressure to be able to fire.  Need to know how to fix this and I am totally a layman here.  I know nothing about the inner workings of this thing.

Do you mean the one you pump up, and is really little? If so, try holding down the trigger and (with a dart in the barrel) moving the pump back quickly. If the dart moves or fires, your tank is probably leaky, If it doesn't, something is either 1. Blocking airflow, 2. The pump is broken, or 3. The piece you hold is messed up somehow. If the tank is leaky, open it up and examine it. If nothing jumps out at you as wierd, try pumping it up amd watch it. You may be able to pump it up then put it in water to see if it shoots out bubbles.

That's not the one he's talking about. It's the vintage red one. Good luck fixing it, those are infamous for leaking.

Overpumping isn't possible, as the SS has an OPRV (Over-Pressure Release Valve), which prevents it from exploding if you pump too much air into it by, well, preventing you from pumping too much air into it.

 

These things are air-powered, as in they use a small air tank to compress some air. By pressing the fire button/knob, you release the air and it decompresses. This (normally) forces the dart out of the tube, but in your case, yeah. Something is definitely wrong here.

 

If that was hard to understand, think of a balloon and how it deflates. Imagine putting a valve and a bike pump on it. Bike pump is the Secret Shot's pump rod, balloon is the air tank, and the valve is the trigger. Inflate balloon with pump, release air with valve. (An air tank cannot pop like a balloon unless you plug the OPRV)

 

Now, the air tank in the SS is not terribly big (and you said it was still stock), and I doubt that it will be broken. I guess the pump is screwed up.

So uhm yeah, and I am afraid of taking it apart and not being able to put it together.  Again, secret shot 2.  Yeah the dart moves a little bit but there is no force at all when I fire.  I think I hear a hiss sound when I hold it to my ear.  So is it safe to take it apart and what tools would I need to fix it?

Safe? Look at it this way: it's already broken, so what do you have to lose?

 

The problem with the SS2 is that there's really not much you can do inside it...it's all one large solvent welded air tank attached to a barrel (it looks like this in there). Like The2ndBluesBro (can I just call you Jake?) said, these things are notorious for leaking....they just tend to die.

Huh.  Okay so there is nothing I can really do then?  It's just dead and just for my nephew to run around with and say bang?

I have had relatively good luck with repairing SS2 tanks. There is still an over pressure valve in the pump, so it is still unlikely that it was over pumped. It is possible that the problem is in the trigger valve, but every one that I have seen has had a problem with the shuttle valve seal. Generally, the problem is the black piece that the barrel peg is molded in to. The adhesive holding it in to the tank often fails, so if the shuttle still seals against the port, the air leaks through the cracks. I have been able to carefully cut the tanks apart, fix the peg, and solvent weld it back together. If you aren't interested in fixing it, I am, and would like to purchase it.
