I've been looking into modding the rapid strike, and I have a friend that's modding his stryfe, so I've been trying to find some good FK-180SH-3240 motors, though can't find that exact model anywhere (Amazon, eBay, looking through a few forums). Though we have found one possible candidate, it seems to be a KS-180SH-3240 model (http://www.kysanelec...p?recordID=7071) instead of the previously mentioned model.

Could someone possibly point out where I could buy some online (other than a hobby store), or if the link was the correct model? Thank you!

New to the Nerf Modding community, my friend just introduced me and I'm already really interested! I hope to contribute in my time modding, though I will most likely keep it to myself and use this as a platform to ask questions or possibly provide help from future modding experience.

What are the differences between the two motors? I've heard that FK-180's are overall the better choice over most of the upgraded 130's

Usually 180 motors have more torque compared to 130 which can sustain rapid firing but require shell cutting.

Alright. But would you think the FK-180 are better than the MTB Rhinos or if the Rhinos are modified enough to be the better choice over 180's? I don't much mind the shell modifications if 180's give better performance.

There are a lot of mixed opinions, but I say go for the 3240 due to it being a more balanced motor and can run a 2S pack which can be smaller than the 3S packs that rhinos use.

I think the primary drawback with using FK-180s is their price/availability. If you can find them or are willing to pay for them, knock yourself out and enjoy.

Are these actual FK-3240's though? http://www.kysanelec...p?recordID=7071

Also, I don't have a 2S or 3S pack yet, though I do have these 3.7 Li ion rechargeable batteries:

No, I wouldn't use those batteries with either motor. They probaly do not put out enough current for either the MTB or FK180 motors (especially the 180s). Also they say they are protected cells. So good news is they probably won't blow up. Bad news is they will probably shut down if you try to use them.

That kysan motor is metal-brushed (not carbon), so durability may be an issue. The windings should be the same as the FK180SH-3240, but if they use crappy magnets the motor may not be as powerful.

FK180SH-3240 are also sold as a replacement for "Blade" helicopters. The part number is EFLH1210 or EFLH1211. See more details here. You can find them in small quantities on ebay and maybe on some R/C hobby sites.

Also MTB Rhinos (and Honeybadgers) spin fast enough that they will give all the performance (range/FPS) that FK180s will. They also have sufficient torque to get your flywheels up to speed quickly and maintain that speed during high rates of fire.

FK180s do have superior torque, though, and may get your flywheels up to speed even faster. Similarly, they have absolutely no trouble maintaining that speed during high rate of fire.

So FK180s are somewhat better but are harder/more expensive to get and require shell modification. Up to you which one you want to go for.

I have no idea. I believe there are some FK-180 knockoffs and I don't know how to tell if a motor is a fake FK-180 or not.

As for lithium ion batteries, I stay away, but then again, I have limited experience with lithium batteries and only then, it's with lithium polymer, not lithium ion cells. Someone else will have to help you there.

EDIT: I just saw Jwasko's post right above mine. He's got some good info there, so read it carefully.

Thank you everyone for responding to my question, you all have been very helpful! I'll look into some better batteries (S2 or S3's) and probably get some FK-180's for the mod I'm working on.

If you find it hard to source genuine 3240's, I've quoted this from torukmakto's blog

"A hint is that 12900RPM @ 3.0V also identifies a 3240 if the seller doesn't mention which wind their motors are. And stay away from the various other winds of these, the FF metal brush versions, and all the gazillions of FK130SH-xxxx listings. They are NOT what you want."
