This Valve should be layed horizontally if wanted to use.

Take 2 bottles they should be like the EVIAN or SPRING WATER bottles.

Cut them in half, or a bit more than half.

Take the halves with the bottle opening (the side where you put the cap on).

In one of the halves put a ping pong ball in.

Now glue the 2 halves together backwards , so the 2 cap ends should be pointing outwards.

Duct tape around the center where it is glued to make sure its air tight.

Now attatch a pipe to each end then attatch those pipes to whatever you need and you have a valve where air can only go in, but not out because when its going in the ping pong ball would be rolling a the bottom, but when sucking the air out all the air is force to pull everything out with it so the ping pong ball flies to the end and blocks the cap part where the hose is connected.

i'm making a picture now.
EDIT: Picture (blueprint) This was built before.

the incoming air stream would have to be moving very quickly to make it work as is. nerfybunny, i would first off reduce the overall size; it's HUGE for a nerf gun valve. second, make a cage for the ball so it moves less than an inch. the way it's currently laid out, the ball will seal shut when air goes either direction. limiting the movement of the ball also increases response time, so it seals sooner.
third, you'll need rubber around the inner edge of the mouth of the bottle, or it won't make a good, hard seal, and won't be able to handle useful levels of pressure.

good job working out new ideas, though. we need that.

You think it should be done horizontally, but I think it should be vertical. Air comes in the bottom, pushing the ping pong ball up a little. Then the ping pong ball falls back down to make the seal.

I don't know how well a ping pong ball would seal against the bottle, though. You might try some of that rubber paint stuff. Spray the inside of the bottle, and the ping pong ball. That might make a better seal.

This was actually done before by people on the MythBuster's from Discovery Channel. They used the small waterbottles the size for kids, that is very small.

I thought the ping pong ball would move either way, but for some reason, it only goes to block the hole when air is sucking out.

Thirdly, You may need a rubber seal, but what they did was let just took a hot metal object, like a Hot glue gun tip and then touched it around the edges of 1 of them so it melted and then they put the other one on it.

Then taped it, glue can be applied too. The tape should be applied very tightly around it keeping it airtight and stuck together.

I still think you would get better, guaranteed results with a vertical setup. Then gravity would also make sure the ping pong ball makes the seal.

Vertical Setup will not work unless the pump is on the bottom, or the air going in is from the bottom.

If its the other way around which usually it would be, then by gravity itself it would always block the air from going in whatever you want it to.

I mainly wanted it to be horizantal because most nerf guns have their pump horizontally. But you can make it different... I guess

Okay kid, have you not considered a hose connecting the pump to the "valve" in question? You could have the valve in any orientation, and have the pump level and horizontal, and it would all work because *gasp* hose is bendable. That is why we can have intracate shells with the pump far from the tank because the hose can weave through tight spaces and connect to the tank.

This idea can work if you set it up vertically, like Vintage said. You would need to cage the ball, like Okto said. Lastly, you need someway to get the air out. By the looks of your picture, it fails. This "one way valve" is like the check valve on the end of the pump on an air powered blaster. Actually, all you've done is make a homemade check valve.

That's pretty cool actually... although Zero has done it before.

Anyways, now you have a check valve for your supposed homemade pump apparatus. You now need a tank. And no, you can't make the valve the tank because then you would need to find a way of opening one ping pong ball's hole and keep the other closed. Air pressure can't do this I don't believe. You could hold one ball in position with a long stiff wire and then pull it out of the hole when you want to release the air.

Ah god, I'm going to go make a diagram and post it sometime.

I really think all you've done is make a check valve with a ping pong ball swimming around on one side.

Not in the game anymore, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for the great years of fun, NH!

it's true, and his is foolproof. go check it out.
